Naw...if it's real, that could get to be kind of depressing. The thing I love about Trailer Park Boys is that it's not real, but it seems real. That's unlike most TV, which is not real and seems unreal...or reality TV, which is semi-real, but seems unreal also! :-)

I like historical wargames and good air war simulations for the same reason...they're not real, but they seem real.

You're not gonna catch me getting involved in the real thing...no sir!

Still, FUBAR sounds like it might be interesting, I guess.

Well, I say again, you guys should check out FUBAR. It's a documentary film about a couple of skids: Terry and the Deaner. It follows their exploits of drinking, bullshitting, drinking, smoking, drinking, dealing with health concerns (Dean has a tumour growing in his right nut), drinking, random vandalism, drinking, music, drinking, swearing, and um, drinking.

Not as funny as Trailer Park Boys, but it's actually real. And yes, Little Hawk, you'll feel like you know these guys. We all do.

Darn right they're still producing offspring. That's one of the things they are best at (so to speak...). These are the people who produce babies without giving it a second thought, even when it's among the least advisable things to do, given their general situation. It's a problem that is not likely to go away soon. :-)

Okay, based on this thread I gave the show another try last night. It ran opposite The Wizard Of Oz on another channel which would normally have been my choice (I love flying monkeys) but in the end I got involved with a guitar and turned the boobtube off. Still didn't enjoy it, Oz is better fantasy anyway.

Man, I remember being around so many people in the early 70's whose only real concerns in life were: Where do I score some dope? Where can I bum a smoke? Where can I score some beer? Where can I score, period? How can I totally avoid work while scoring all these things, and still get some pocket money to spend at the same time? (Freedom 35, man!) Why don't I get any respect!!!???

They were simple people (okay, idiots...) with simple concerns. They were hilarious. They took it all absolutely for granted. This was normality to them. This was life. They collected pogie, avoided responsibility, got drunk, stoned, and in minor trouble with the law, and did it all with the innocent faith of knight errants in search of the fabled holy grail of eternal happiness and fulfillment.

I watch that show, see those people again, and just crack up...

"We just gotta break the law one more time, see, and get rich so we don't have to break the law any more..."   LOL!!!

I must echo Clinton Hammond and agree that Trailer Park Boys "... is one of the funniest, most original shows in the past 15 years!"

Right on! It is an absolutely marvelous, brilliant, stupendously good, hilariously funny show in every way. It has no peers. I am serious. It's one of the very few things out there actually worth watching TV for these days. (Count 'em on the fingers of one hand...)

I don't even own a TV, and watch about 3 hours of it a year, I'd say...BUT...Raptor was kind enough to expose me to his DVD's of Trailer Park Boys, and I was hooked.

My advice...buy the DVD's...you won't have to sit through the TV advertising, but can get straight to the point and watch the funniest, most courageous damn show in the history of television. It just gets better with every episode.

I've lived around what could be termed the somewhat disadvantaged lower echelon of Canadian society, local losers of the social game, have worked with them here and there, and this show is a totally wry and gloriously apt comment on the daily thoughts, aims, and survival tactics of some of society's...ummm...rough diamonds? Or what would you call them?

If you don't get it...well, that's a shame, but what can you do?

Hurrah for trailer park boys!...the only TV show in history where the characters talk exactly like real lower class Canadians do every day, and still aren't offensive in the process. Doesn't offend me, anyway. Ordinary TV crap offends me. Music videos offend me.

Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles are really quite sympathetic characters in their own inimitable way...and that Julian...he's got character. Poor lad just didn't grow up with all the social advantages, that's all.

Yeah, and Ricky's a selfish jerk, but he's a totally understandable jerk. Bubbles is amazing.

Trailer Park Boys is Canadian, but that doesn't make it CBC. I think it's indy produced (in Halifax) and picked up by some of the satellite and cable channels like Comedy Network.

Personally, I like it. It hits a good balance of low-budget weirdness/creativity/fearlessness.

But hell, I also liked Road to Avonlea.   Couldn't help it, I can't dislike anything about PEI! (Although Avonlea was actually a stage set in Uxbridge Ontario where they did 90% of the filming. The cast members had body doubles in PEI for the scenes of kids running through fields by the ocean etc...)

Hopefully it'll mark a turn towards good entertaining TV, and away from cr@p like Blackfly, Road To Avonlea, Anne Of Green Gables and all that other garbage that the CBC seems to think is what Canadians want...

Even my grandmother is sick to death of that stuff...
