Subject: RE: Obit: Anne Grimes Ohio Ballads Collector Singe From: kytrad (Jean Ritchie) Date: 02 Feb 04 - 02:50 PM I never met her, although we tried to get together some years ago and it didn't work out. We corresponded, though, and she gave permission for one of the tracks from her record to be used as an example of her playing, on an early Folkways dulcimer-instruction album I made in the fifties. A very gracious lady- one of the GOOD of the world. Jean |

Subject: RE: Obit: Anne Grimes Ohio Ballads Collector Singe From: Big Mick Date: 30 Jan 04 - 11:52 AM Bill, thanks for starting this one. Anne Grimes was a gift from God, and we shall miss her on this side of the veil. Our loss is the other sides gain though, and her voice will be heard in the many who were inspired by her labors. God be good to her, Mick |

Subject: Obit: Anne Grimes Ohio Ballads Collector Singe From: GUEST,Bill Kennedy Date: 30 Jan 04 - 10:12 AM In today's paper, an announcement of Anne's death on Jan. 14, in Oberlin, Ohio where she had been living in retirement. Her 1957 recording 'Ohio State Ballads: History Through Folk Songs', is available now through Smithsonian. A dulcimer player and collector, she was largely responsible for documenting the history of dulcimer making and playing in Southern Ohio. Beautiful photo of her, laughing, holding a big dulcimer on her lap. |
