Gibson Dove

Check out Peter Lang - played a Dove on several albums. I have always enjoyed playing them in stores, but for my money the J-45 is still Gibson's incredible instrument - it shows up in rock, folk, blues, just about everywhere....plus it is extremely easy to play. Sure wish I hadn't traded mine some years ago.

If it's early 60's it would be a better bet. Gibson was making a lot of lousy guitars by the late 60's. Of course you're right, playing it will be the test, but if you're using it for bluegrass and planning to spend over $1000 for it, I would recommend looking at alternatives. If you would consider a new guitar, my partner plays a new Taylor which I think cost about $1200 that has a good Martin style sound for a lot less money than the new Martins. I'm a Gibson fanatic myself; If you have time to look around, you might find something a lot nicer than a 60's Dove for similar money.

I'm just curious as to what some Mudcatters think of the '60s Gibson Dove. It just happens that I have a shot at getting one. Of course I'll play it and that will be the only real test, but I'd be interested in what some of you think about these guitars. Right now I play a Martin OOO-18 that's great for fingerpicking and blues but lacks some punch for bluegrass in open stages. I have a Norman ST-68 dreadnought also. Anyway any comments would be appreciated.
