Subject: RE: BS: Peter Ustinov RIP From: Don Firth Date: 01 Apr 04 - 01:16 PM fat B****rd, the Internet Movie Data Base doesn't list Peter Ustinov in the cast of Hobson's Choice. It does list Prunella Scales (Sybil Fawlty) as one of the daughters, however. Here is a complete list of Ustinov's credits. Mind blowing!! Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: Peter Ustinov RIP From: HuwG Date: 01 Apr 04 - 03:46 AM Bless you, LH, I was about to mention that one. Bruce Geller was impressed enough by the film to create the original "Mission Impossible" series in the 1960's; and lesser minds simply ripped off the stunt for the over-hyped film of the same name with Tom Cruise; but I digress. I remember first noticing him when I was a child, as the ghost of Edward Teach in "Blackbeard's Ghost". I don't think I ever saw such inspired clowning. The IMDb trivia page for Peter Ustinov has, among other items: Has a song written about him: "The Night I Saved Peter Ustinov" - written and recorded by Lauren Christy. Is fluent in French, German, English, Italian, Russian and Spanish and can pass in Turkish and Greek among others. He was known to proudly say "I have Russian, German, Spanish, Italian, French and Ethiopian blood in my veins." |

Subject: RE: BS: Peter Ustinov RIP From: Little Hawk Date: 31 Mar 04 - 08:38 PM I remember him in the movie "Topkapi", crawling around in absolute terror on the palace roof in Istanbul. He was a delightfully amusing man, back in the days when wit shone brighter than mere doltishness. - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: Peter Ustinov RIP From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 30 Mar 04 - 05:48 PM A great actor and a most wonderful raconteur. On one talk show he said --in the most droll way--"...when people say to me here in the U>S> Have A Nice Day I unrailingly tell them that I have other plans". Wit drawn large. Bill Hahn |

Subject: RE: BS: Peter Ustinov RIP From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 30 Mar 04 - 02:43 PM He did some good jokesongs too - I sort of recall there being one about a Soviet collective farm with a tractor driver Stakhanovite. Alastair Cooke, Bob Copper and Peter Ustinov, all standing in a line. Funny old day for Saint Peter... |

Subject: RE: BS: Peter Ustinov RIP From: Raedwulf Date: 29 Mar 04 - 05:23 PM A great man. It may have been one of his lesser efforts (in the critics' eyes, at least) but I still remember One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing with fondness. I'm sure I saw it at the flicks on release too, at the tender age of... look, never you mind, but I wasn't a teenager! I wonder what he's saying to whichever Big Juju he's just run into? ;) |

Subject: RE: BS: Peter Ustinov RIP From: Schantieman Date: 29 Mar 04 - 10:38 AM His autobiography, Dear Me is well worth a read. I wish I'd thought of that title - nearly as good as Golda Meir's My Life. A talented, funny, erudite and clever man who will be sorely missed. Steve |

Subject: RE: BS: Peter Ustinov RIP From: Metchosin Date: 29 Mar 04 - 10:37 AM Sir Peter was also a major supporter of UNICEF for over 30 years and a great humourist. His autobigraphy Dear Me was engrossing and incredibly funny. When he went off to school in London at the age 6, he was confronted with a large picture of Jesus Christ holding the hand of a boy scout and pointing out the extent of the British Empire. He said that was the beginning of his scepticism. The world is a poorer place for his loss. |
