Subject: RE: BS: A Very Nice Thing Done From: JenEllen Date: 06 Apr 04 - 04:51 PM Kudos to Carlos Castellanos (and you too, Rapaire!) Baldo is a favorite around here, coming in second only to Red and Rover. It's amazing what people are willing to give, and truly how little it takes, ain't it? *g* Congrats, and good library week! |

Subject: RE: BS: A Very Nice Thing Done From: Rapparee Date: 06 Apr 04 - 01:36 PM Possibly, but I did it only for this library in what is, in reality, a somewhat out-of-the-way town in Idaho. "Baldo" doesn't even appear in the local papers. |

Subject: RE: BS: A Very Nice Thing Done From: Jim Dixon Date: 06 Apr 04 - 01:22 PM Hmm. I wonder if this has anything to do with why the Sunday April 4 episode of The Simpsons was about libraries. I missed a bit of the beginning, but it seems the local library's shelves were empty due to funding cuts, so Marge entertained the kids by telling them historical stories. Then we saw the stories acted out, with Homer as Henry VIII, etc. I think there have been times in the past when a lot of cartoonists agreed to work a certain theme into their strips on a certain date. |

Subject: BS: A Very Nice Thing Done From: Rapparee Date: 06 Apr 04 - 01:06 PM National Library Week is April 18 through 24 here in the US this year. And like many libraries across the country, we want to do something special, and we are. We're producing a tape for the local access channel of various prominent people discussing reading and libraries. As this was being planned, I asked several nationally syndicated cartoonists if they'd contribute a panel to help us celebrate. Two responded, one of them being definite ("We like to do this sort of thing") and the other a maybe. Today I received the final artwork from Carlos Castellanos, the penman of the "Baldo" cartoon strip. It's excellent, just what we wanted, and all Carlos wants in return is how we used it (clippings, etc.). Ask. All they can do is say no. |
