Thanks, Wilfried. I have used this resource but forgot it. I tried Slovenia and Romania, but alas, no English translations for the songs.

Go to http://ingeb.org/. On top of the page you find countries and areas of East Europe and the Balkans. Some of the songs are furnished with translations.

Hi, Wretched - we have lots of Yiddish songs here, but not many from Eastern European languages. If somebody posts a request for a specific song, we usually come up with an answer. If you explore our QuickLinks menu (on most Mudcat pages), you'll find our Song Origins section. We have groups of German, French, Italian, and Polish songs. We also have a special section for Russian Folk Songs, and we have scads of Irish-language songs.
It would be interesting to have more Eastern European songs, especially Bulgrarian songs and perhaps the Hungarian songs Bela Bartok and Kodaly and others collected. If you explore this site (click) you'll find Eastern European recordings and background information.
Post a request or two for specific songs, and we'll see if we can find answers.

Also, try sourcing (2+) LPs by The Pennywhistlers (USA - Nonesuch, I think) and Ethel Raim / A L Lloyd's Bulgarian one, all of which included lyric and translation sheets - these were very useful to me in my E/Eur. singing days. Frankie Armstrong's (UK) voice workshops usually included some too ...

Cheers!

Try putting the names of the countries in the Lyrics and knowledge Search blank at the top of the page. I put ukrainian there and found Shchedrik. If you know a song name, try that as well. There are probably a number of them here at Mudcat.
Read the FAQ to find out how to search in Mudcat. Use a keyword, etc., do not capitalize.

Wretched, can't help with online sources, but in going through old school songbooks, a number can be found in them.
Music Highways and Byways, Silver Burdett, indexed in the schoolbook permathread, 69315, has a number of them, each with one verse in the original language.
Bulgarian- 1
Croatian- 3
Czech- 3
Greece- 2
Polish-3
Russian-2
Slovak-2
Ukrainian-4
Yugoslav-2

Others of these books, available very cheaply nowadays, have them, but I don't believe that they are identified in the indices in the Permathread.
School Permathread

I looked at a few online sources, but found Slovak songs, etc. without the English translation.
