Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: Rasener Date: 21 Jun 04 - 08:05 AM You mean you are not going to sing then Sooz? I thought you and Mike were in fine form last friday at MRFC. I think I heard my number plate mentioned on Radio Lincolnshire becuase of having the yellowbelly sticker in the car. Might get a free tank of petrol :-) |
Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: GUEST,Sooz (at work) Date: 21 Jun 04 - 07:55 AM Thought I would drag this back to the top in case there were still people who hadn't noticed that we'd moved! Looking forward to another busy night on Friday - I think I'll just get comfy and enjoy the music for a change. |
Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: Georgiansilver Date: 20 Jun 04 - 07:50 AM John....I could say a "score" is only twenty but I won't....Yes it was well attended last time and hopefully will be this as well...Some more have been confirmed, last night at the Old Hall so should be a good turn out. To any uninitiated out there..Friday 25th at 8.30....at the DROVERS CALL(What a great name for a pub with a Folk Club in it) on LEA ROAD, GAINSBOROUGH. Be Blessed. |
Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 20 Jun 04 - 04:59 AM Our second club-night in the new venue, 'The Drovers' Call', Lea Road, Gainsborough is this Friday, 25th June, 2004, at 8:30pm. Almost 50 attended the first night singaround - can we beat that score? J :0) |
Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: Rasener Date: 19 Jun 04 - 05:43 AM I was very impressed with him. I have been listening to his CD for the last couple of weeks, and was thinking, if his live act is as good as his Cd then we are in for a treat. And we were. Give Steve a bit of time, as that was one of the few times he has done a floor spot. Can only get better. All my 45 minute Guest spotlights have gone for this year, but he will definately get one early next year. Such a nice and modest man. I particularly like his version of Cocaine Lil and Black Brown and White. |
Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: Travelling Audience Date: 19 Jun 04 - 05:27 AM After listening to Steve Newton the Blues man at Market Rasen FC last night we think he would make a very welcome guest at the GFC. |

Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: Carol Date: 13 Jun 04 - 04:11 AM It was a great evening - I loved the song about the young German soldier in France - the gentleman that sang it wasn't bad either!! Wish I could get there every fortnight but it's a bit far away for a regular night out - sob sob!! |
Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: AllanW Date: 12 Jun 04 - 08:56 AM hehe Baby Buff wears size 13 boots! We are currently trying to find a suitable name for our little duo. The duo is not new, it's about 20 years old. Started with Liam playing his rattle to dad's blues renditions, progressed through infancy, delinquency, schooldays, hormonal nightmaresville, university and now we're here, still singing Robin and Barry Dransfield songs twenty years on. The new venue is cool. I always remember Sooz saying to me 'we never start until there's a bum on every seat'. I hope those bums continue to fill those seats on every folk night and I will support the club whether on my own, with baby buff, with Solace or with the Buffalo Brothers as often as I can. Very best wishes and lots of luck with the Drovers Call. Coolest name for a folk club venue ever! Allan |
Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 12 Jun 04 - 04:37 AM Me too. And weren't Buffalo Bro and Baby Buff great! Book 'em Danno. John :0) |
Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: GUEST,Guest Phil Date: 12 Jun 04 - 04:23 AM Thoroughly enjoyed the evening at the new venue. As always a friendly atmosphere and some super talent on show. Looking forward to two weeks time. |
Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: Sooz Date: 12 Jun 04 - 03:25 AM Keith Marsden's song "The Drovers" was the anthem for the first night, and with around 50 joining in with the chorus, the Landlord's grin met somewhere round the back of his head. Mind you, that version of Barbara Allen will not be heard again for a while - I have a sore throat this morning and must be on top form for Market Rasen next week! |
Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: Rasener Date: 12 Jun 04 - 03:10 AM A very well supported night and a very good night had by one and all. Looks to be a far more suitable location with the owner of the pub showing a very positive interest in the night. I do wish GFC success in their new venue. |
Subject: RE: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: folkfan73 Date: 11 Jun 04 - 08:02 PM You beat me to the post, Travelling Audience! I had to reset my cookie by reloging onto the Mudcat site before I could reply to this thread. Due to virus threats, I had to delete my cookie files, beforehand. It was a great night! I enjoyed it, alot, thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Sooz! Also, I like to thank all the performers who played on Friday night, and it was great that all the people who turned up joined in with the singing! It made the night a great night, a christening to the first night of the Gainsborough Folk Club at Drover's Call. Thanks for having strongbow bottles so I can continue drinking cider on the folk nights, as well as whiskey and coke. Be blessed, folkfan73! |

There was a glut of quality performers and an atmosphere of pure magic...The prognosis for the future of this club is so good!!!!!! "The Drovers Call" will prove to be the making of Gainsborough Folk Club....There is space to do the things we could not do before and an amenable Landlord who will order whichever alcoholic beverages we may require. What more could a Folk Clubber want???? Good music and good booze......sorted!!!!!! What a Blessing on us all. Be Blessed, Mike. |

Our session in Bakewell is on its third pub at the moment but we've managed to hang on to it for a few years now. The North Derbyshire "mule train" will be heading for the A1 Festival that weekend. Subject: A new venue for Gainsborough Folk Club From: Sooz Date: 07 Jun 04 - 05:28 PM After much research and pub crawling Gainsborough Folk Club have found a new venue. We will have exclusive use of a very comfortable room at The Drovers Call (Lea Road Gainsborough. It will be absolutely non-smoking and there is plenty of safe parking. The room is big enough for us to book more well-known artists as well as to accomodate as many performers as turn up to take part in a singaround. Admission will continue to be free unless a guest has ben booked. Our first club night in our new home is on Friday 11th June at 8.30pm. Please try to join us for house-warming. |
