Subject: RE: Cumberland Trad Music From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 25 Jul 04 - 07:24 AM Hi Lead, Mention of your name reminds me of meeting you at my last night at Maidenhead folk club. A grand night at one of THE folk clubs. Ref Harding, credit by all means, but 'Getting involved'? The CD was published in 2001. |

Subject: RE: Cumberland Trad Music From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 25 Jul 04 - 07:19 AM I should have added that the Veteran people do mail order, mailorder@veteran.co.uk, and they have a web site, www.veteran.co.uk They, along with the Musical Traditions label, www.mustrad.org.uk, are a godsend to followers of genuine traditional music. If you don't know them already, check 'em out. |

Subject: RE: Cumberland Trad Music From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 25 Jul 04 - 07:09 AM I don't know if it was mentioned on the radio but the recordings Robert Forrester and Norman Alford made in the 50's are now available on a CD on the VETERAN label. It is called 'Pass The Jug Round', catalogue number VETERAN 142CD, and a most splendid album it is. |

Subject: RE: Cumberland Trad Music From: GUEST Date: 25 Jul 04 - 03:09 AM MH should have known better on Wild Rover, surely? What a yobbo! |
|
Subject: RE: Cumberland Trad Music From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 25 Jul 04 - 12:02 AM An old recording of a Cumberland bloke singing Wild Rover led MH to say that he must have learned it from an Irishman. Had he read the relevant Mudcat thread he would know that Ireland need not be invoked for that one. I loved the mad yelping and barking that acccompanied hunting songs. I must try that next time someone in our circle does one. Keith. |
