If the OP ever tried playing Cajun music on the whistle he'll have had a surprise. It's usually in C. The D whistle won't work.

A search thru the Yahoo Groups will find several that focus on construction of whistles - including a "Bass Whstle"... Any similar internet search will throw up other endless places to look. Chiff & Fipple used to have links to such things too.

I knew I had that one somewhere in my midi collection, Alice. I could play it from memory, but it drove me nuts trying to remember its name. 'Finally found it... The Rambler's Hornpipe. As is so often the case with these tunes, it's probably known by a dozen other titles... in two languages!

Sky-Coyote: If you get your hands on some sequencing software you can download, transpose and print any of the midi files from my tunebook. I haven't added many new sequences lately, but there's a fair number of French-Canadian and Acadian tunes in the collection. Help yourself!

You can get music from different countries by searching Richard Robinson's tune book, then choose the key (D) and print out a gif of the notation.

Virtually ANY tune book for Fiddle , mandoline , tenor banjo etc etc ought to work for a D whistle as MOST of the tunes will be in D or G (or the associated minors) with the occasional one in A , which is not a problem on a D whistle .

Mostly an Irish instrument until post Chieftains times when everybody and his dog went Celtic - then they all went local making their own of it and calling it what ever they liked.

A good place to begin is at the Chiff and Fipple website where the local flavors are available and boasted about ... endlessly.

In fact that site even has the audacity to imply that Oirish TW is a mere subset of TW proper and OC we all know that such a claim is rubbish.

Hello I am new to the mud and I hope meet some good people here. I am trying to find a book or folio of Canadian or Francophone Jigs, reels and hornpipes that can be used by a tin whistle player who has just started out. Does anyone know of any Cajun whistle players? In July I purchased an excellent whistle in the key of D made by a fellow named David O'Brien from Chilliwack, British Columbia at a folk festival in Mission, B.C.. If anyone has something they are willing to part with I would gladly work something out with them (ie a small amount of $ or perhaps a musical trade). I am also interested in making tin whistles as well and always appreciate any advice. I am currently working on a small book and CD of "Hot Club" jazz chromatic harmonica (completion sometime mid 2005) and would glady offer a copy in exchange for a suitable book of jigs, reels and hornpipes.
