Subject: RE: BS: I learned to spell SQUIRELL from LH From: Rapparee Date: 14 Oct 04 - 08:36 AM Story goes that the reenactors at Plimoth Plantation were cooking lunch when a Proper Boston Lady asked them what they were cooking in that big pot over the campfire. "Seagull," came the prompt reply. "Why, I didn't know that they were edible! However do you know when they are done?" "When the feathers float to the top." |

Subject: RE: BS: I learned to spell SQUIRELL from LH From: Rapparee Date: 13 Oct 04 - 08:57 AM Cuz they're shy and don't sing in public. You gotta go out to the woods and lay down and stay real quiet, not hardly breathing or anything. You gotta lay there long enough that they either get used ta ya or think yer dead, one or the other. Finally, they'll come out and play and pretty soon they'll all start to sing. Different songs at first, but pretty soon all of them will start singing the same thing, usually "Kum By Ya" or "Three hundret millyun barrels of beer on the wall" or "The Notre Dame Victory March" or some other popular song. They'll all start to laugh and then pretty soon one'll sing a song and teach it to the others and that'll go around the circle for awhile. Somebody'll break out the fermented nuts and before ya know it them squirrels will be singing stuff like "Three Whores Came Down" and "Barrett's Privateers" and next thing you know there'll be a big fight over the words to someting like "Eskimo Nell" and then the squirrel cops'll come and haul the whole bunch off to the nuthouse. Squirrels got really good singing voices, but you can't hardly git banjoes and guitars and piobrachs small enough for 'em to play, so they only sing when they feel safe among their friends. |

Subject: RE: BS: I learned to spell SQUIRELL from LH From: Jeri Date: 11 Oct 04 - 06:48 PM 'er', SINS. I got it now. Everything's OK. I see on the other thread, brucie was asking LH a serious question about how to spell it. I don't think he quite understood the answer though. Maybe it would help to break it down phonetically into squi + rr + el. Or you can do it: 'Squir', just like in the word 'squirt', only you leave the t off because squirrels don't drink tea. Then you add 'rel', which is almost like 'real', only it's a little different, so it's not 'real'. (Haha!) All you have to do is put them together. I don't think the word is French, so you wouldn't use the double 'l' on the end. If you did, you'd have to put an 'e' after it, and pronounce it 'skwer ELLE'. If none of these suggestions work, maybe you could invent a symbol, like the Artist Formerly Known as Prince uses, or you could just call them all Dave. |

Subject: RE: BS: I learned to spell SQUIRELL from LH From: Jeri Date: 11 Oct 04 - 06:28 PM Would somebody explain why this is funny? Usually, I'm pretty good at picking up why other people think something's humorous, even if I don't think it is. I figure: 1. Little Hawk made a typo, and brucie thought it was funny enough for there to be a whole thread about the typo, or 2. Lots of people can't spell squirrel right, or they can, but the word is just a typo waiting to happen, or 3. Brucie can't spell 'squirrel' and is making fun of LH for spelling it the right way, or 4. Brucie CAN spell 'squirrel' correctly, but is pretending he can't so he can make fun of LH for spelling it the right way, or 5. Something else that I'm not going to understand anyway. Thank you for your assistance. |
