radio & TV has long since sat in that camp - if it ever was in the info dept anyway.

Sorry Clinton - I think you were trying to tell me that if I downloaded and (yawn, yawn , is it finished yet) install zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I would have the test inbuilt in the plug-in. Well it is about on par with any other application that might test for - assuming I could find one - so thanks again.
As Jack Benny's answer to the mugger who told him - "Yer money or your life" - and similarly to his radio sketch - there will be a long pause

"I said -Yer money or your life"

I'm thinking it over.

Some people get infatuated with a particular technology and forget that the original purpose of the Internet was to disseminate information in a simple easy way.

er thanks Clinton - I don't have Flash - deliberately. The Flash movie insists on loading in it's entirety until the Certificate dialog inviting me to download Flash. I usually eyeball the modem on 100% Rx and give-up after 30 seconds.

What I was looking for was a quick way to know if the solid download was a Flash movie or big picture, they amount to the same thing - unecessary delay.

Another three problems with Flash, it prints as per screen - using loads of ink, and you cannot "save as" a page sitting in a browser off-line (after disconnect) and you cannot see where hyperlinks go (not on right click > properties anyway).

One guy offers web design service and has not re-instated my link after his Flashy revamp despite reminders over two years - I see him often and he is not being funny with me but it does make yer wonder!

I have noticed a number of Folk club sites using Flash - some who should know better.

Invariably they take minutes (think 3 - 5) to load on 56K and must have been created by people on broadband.

Almost all do not provide text while they load or links to by-pass the movie.
There are a lot of non-broadband users and quite a few without Flash (like me- out of choice). Some of these site ask me to link to them and don't even reply when I request a return link.

What I was looking for was a way to distinguish slow (large pictures) from Flash movies without resorting to proving it really is the world wide wait. On my site I prefer to warn people who surf from my site as the comments of those that have difficulty usually put blame on me for others' lack of net savvy.

my site
