Masato, I've been away from Mudcat a lot over the past year, but as I started logging back in again, you were one of the first people I thought of. Your quick and astute input has been immensely valuable!

Indeed, Masato Sakurai is one of those whose input here has been so valuable to many of us. I look forward to his further participation whenever he sees fit. After I, unbelievably, to me at least, said the above---thanking MS---I realize that it was only my own MS that, ironically, gave me the too much time I have on my hands these days. That free "time" set me on a path to find Mudcat (and computers in general) back in '98. Masato has been a huge part of it. Those who arrive her by way of more pop stuff now called folk music would do themselves a huge favor to look into the many wonderful posts made by this man over the last years.

Yea thanks Masato - I asled a question way back and you found a a site with the song. Unfortunately due to learning how to use the 'Cat it was not obvious the site was mine. Just this week-end I heard of a singer singing the song and I am pursuing the lead. It may turn-out to be a false trail but with a little more digging I hope to get to the bottom of it. I just hope it is not another circular trail that brings me to myself. But Thanks for the hunting Masato.

of folk songs for 30 years. Your info is a treasure to me.
I thought you might be interested in what I know about the subject of
ROSIN THE BOW. First you may add to your list of American songs.
"Down by the Willow Garden".The earliest song was called "The Gentle Maiden" translated into English from the Gailic around the 13th century.The music at the time was ancient. A harp tune from at least as early as the 7th century. The nearest in melody would be the Irish version of Rosin the Bow. If you hear from Mr.Gargoyle, please thank him also for me.If either of you want to have the words to The Gentle Maiden it is yours for the asking.I am always looking for more words. I am including my e-mail address.

Masato, I am glad you were not involved--and I'm sorry for those who were where it happened. We had a quite small quake here this summer---a part of the New Madrid fault that moved so horribly in 1812. I slept through it. Carol felt it though. After, I asked her as Hemingway might've, "Did the earth move?"   ;-)

Good morning, Giok and Susan. It's a good Sunday morning here in Tokyo. The quake was devastating, but as the epicenter was about 160 miles northwest of Tokyo we felt only a tremor.
