Now if the vote in Ohio had gone the other way by some narrow margin, which it very very easily could have, and Kerry had been elected, with about three million votes overall fewer than Bush, I'm sure that there'd have been rather a lot of "cry-babies" and "sore losers" in the Bush camp.

MG, I'm sick of the "sore loser" and "crybaby" rhetoric. There are only two contexts in which we hear these terms:

1) little kids in the schoolyards
2) people trying to defend an obviously flawed electoral process.

Whether the current election "worked" or not to elect a majority candidate is not the only issue. We have a system where many, many votes are never counted, either because machines fail to count them and we do not require hand counting, or because we simply can't be bothered (provisional ballots won't change the results anyway is the argument). This makes it very easy to arrange voter fraud if you control the electoral process (put the faulty vote-counting machines in strategic precincts and voila!) In addition, we have a relentless stream of prattling in the media as to what Bush's "Margin of victory" and "mandate" is. We will never know these things, and asked directly most of the reporters and anchors admit it. We just don't count all the ballots.

The only reason our ridiculously faulty system is tolerated is that, by definition, the country is ruled by the people who most recently benefited from the system. Whatever side that is shouts down anyone calling for reform by using schoolyard taunts like "sore loser" and "crybaby."

In years like this, when the electoral margin was very slim, and when in fact it is more than conceivable that the loser actually won, these taunts get more and more strident. Why? Because the taunters are scared. They know as well as anyone that they might actually have lost. They know we don't know who really won and that their man calls the shots essentially by good luck--his voter suppression tactics worked better than the other guy's.

In short, they are little kids on the sandlot. I think they need to grow up.

Sorry to piss in your soup, folks, but we have Cheney as President, have had for four years, and will have for the next four unless Jesus (and/or his heart condition) calls him home before then- which god in his infinite mercy kindly grant.

Surely you don't think that not-too-bright spoiled rich brat has been running things on his own?

I hope we never see Cheney as president, but Frank, the process for electing the president worked as it should and you are just a sore loser.

You have no proof of any wrong doing and if you do, I am wondering why you haven't taken it to anyone.

Or are you afraid that they would throw you out on your ass?

Sore losers always cry foul.

I don't believe they are healthy mentally but keep them healthy physically, I say. During the campaign, I, too, was afraid that dubya would be assassinated. It would have been disastrous for a number of different reasons: Cheney as commander, Bush as martyr, another round of absolute chaos as happened in 1968, etc.

Putsch - [n] a sudden and decisive change of government illegally or by force. Synonyms: coup, coup d'etat, takeover.

Do you think the secret service would mind if you referred to the President in such an insulting way?

Well, MG, if they're gonna start lockin' people up for insulting the Shrub, they'd better get busy building prisons 'cause about half the country thinks he's an idiot. In fact, if they were to go back and arrest all the people who insulted Clinton as well, there wouldn't even be enough free people left to run the prisons, would there?

And I agree, Frank, that assassinating Bush would be a terrible thing. The thought of a Cheney presidency is even more appalling than four more years of Bush.

I also want to say that the term Putsch is a Russian and German term meaning "takeover". Bush is not Hitler but the Putsch was used in Nazi Germany as well as other times in history to bring dictators to power.

"Frank, brush up on your Yiddish.
I think you are trying to say putz."

No, Martin. The Putsch was conducted in Germany to bring Hitler to power. It's in the history books.

"Do you think the secret service would mind if you referred to the President in such an insulting way?"

I do not believe in violence if that is what you are inferring.
I believe an assasination would be a terrible thing for this country.

"Please show some respect"

I have great respect for our country. I have great respect for democracy and I believe it is being trashed by King George. I also believe that respect is earned not mandated. I did have some respect for the process that elected Reagan and Nixon. The process that elected W. is not right.

I have respect for the flag, for our country, for the young men and women that put their lives on the line for their convictions. But this president has not earned any respect.

Frank

Wasn't there a mythical literary critter called the
Putsch-Me Bush-You?

Frank, brush up on your Yiddish.

I think you are trying to say putz.

Isn't a putsch one of those little Polish pastries?

Do you think the secret service would mind if you referred to the President in such an insulting way?

Please show some respect.

George W. Putsch has vetted the CIA and other important security posts by placing people there who have no real experience and are loyal to him. Loyalty to him is their only credentials.

It's a takeover.

Frank
