As for me, I had turky with sausage stuffing for Thanksgiving, but then, if you run a vegetarian restaurant, there are some things you've just gotta do.

I think it's rather nice to have an unusual surname - even though it sometimes makes people a bit uncertain about my existence. In fact, there are times when I doubt my own existence. Max sends me an occasional e-mail to reassure me of my existence, but can I believe him?

I have stumbled on a posting which says "Nick gatherer - is that a real name?" or similar. Well, for my sins, it IS the name I was given at birth. It has caused some amusement considering my hobbies (song and tune gathering).

I recall many years ago sitting in my favorite Ir*sh bar in Phila. One of the guys who had been drinking a bit asked me how I enjoyed my Thanksgiving turkey. I told him I had spent it with some Chinese friends and we had steamed fish and bean curd. He didn't look happy about that. He seemed to think the American thing to do was to eat turkey on Thanksgiving, and anything else was unpatriotic.

Being a young pedantic sn*t at the time I informed him that Thanksgiving can't be an American holiday. The nation hadn't formed yet when the custom started.

Fortunately, older wiser bodies came over and bought drinks all around, and blood didn't flow.

I'm glad things have opened up back there and you can admit publicly to eating bean curd on Thanksgiving ;-}

Well, Mick, I have to say Thanksgiving dinner wasn't bad. Everything was traditional, except for the lack of meat. The substitute was some kind of breaded pseudo-chicken pattie that didn't taste half bad. I'm at my favorite sister's house and the company was wonderful, so I ain't complaining. Still and all, it seems strange to be here at the birthplace of Thanksgiving and not have turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.
I heard lots of sea songs (and sang a few) at Mystic Seaport this week, so it's been a nice vacation.

Nobody works for Mudcat. We do have volunteers, however, and Joe is a distinguished one.

I have no idea what anybody's real name is, except for mine, Susan's and Max's.

Songs posted on the forum wind up in the DT. Via me. I try NOT to pick only the "best" versions, although I do try to minimize redundant entries. Some songs take longer than others to get into the DT, as I'm trying to keep a balance of a)songs with tunes and those without,b) trad vs. Singer-songwriter c)types of songs and d) whatever makes sense to me at the time.

so who is Joe and what does he do? Presumably works for Mudcat...

other questions - are Offer and Gatherer (Nick, a collector of Scottish tunes) their reall names?

How do songs make their way on to the DT database? Who selects them, what criteria? Do lyrics we write in to the forum make their way to the DT (if not, it seems rather a waste in some cases/if so, again how do you select them and chose the 'best' versions?)
