Subject: RE: SUNY New Paltz (anyone attend or teach there?) From: bbc Date: 23 Jan 05 - 05:49 PM Hey, Russ. Do you have transportation? It's not right by you, but there is a nice folk music society in Hyde Park. PM me, if you'd like more info. I live in Copake, but date a man who works in New Paltz & got his master's degree from there. best, Barbara |
Subject: RE: SUNY New Paltz (anyone attend or teach there?) From: Jim Tailor Date: 23 Jan 05 - 05:45 PM This caught my eye because my cousin teaches there (used to be head of the Art dept). she doesn't play music though. |
Subject: RE: SUNY New Paltz (anyone attend or teach there?) From: Charley Noble Date: 23 Jan 05 - 04:33 PM There really ought to be some younger generation types who attend the nearby Clearwater Revival Festival enrolled at New Paltz. Seems like that festival might be right up your alley. I have a niece there but she's a senior and probably wouldn't speak to anyone younger than herself, and she's only marginally interested in her uncle's traditional music. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: SUNY New Paltz (anyone attend or teach there?) From: thespionage Date: 23 Jan 05 - 12:10 PM Just John: You didn't sounds condescending, I was just defending myself because some people were implying that I'm shallow because I was looking for people my age. Russ |

Subject: RE: SUNY New Paltz (anyone attend or teach there?) From: just john Date: 21 Jan 05 - 01:50 PM thespionage - I didn't mean to sound condescending. I just worry about appearing to be a creepy middle-aged single guy stalking youngsters. Also, I fear the obvious question: "You're nearly a half-century old and you can't play any better?" |
Subject: RE: SUNY New Paltz (anyone attend or teach there?) From: Cllr Date: 20 Jan 05 - 07:03 PM My friend teaches politics in SUNY binghamton unfortunatly he is not into folk, but when I went over in the summer I did get to celebrate july 4th in Poughkeepsie. Cllr |
Subject: RE: SUNY New Paltz (anyone attend or teach there?) From: thespionage Date: 20 Jan 05 - 04:56 PM I see. I've never had trouble playing with older people, especially since the music lends itself to musicians older than me. My banjo teacher is more than three times my age! |
Subject: RE: SUNY New Paltz (anyone attend or teach there?) From: just john Date: 20 Jan 05 - 04:10 PM I'm in Poughkeepsie and have electronic bongos. (And lots of other stuff, but the bongos are what I can play folk on.) But I worry about the creepiness factor of playing with people less than half my age, so I haven't searched for fellow players in colleges. |
Subject: RE: SUNY New Paltz (anyone attend or teach there?) From: thespionage Date: 20 Jan 05 - 03:07 PM Haha. Yes, that is true. I was wondering if anyone *here* attends or teachers at SUNY New Paltz. I go there and I was looking for people to share my love of listening to and playing folk music. Subject: RE: SUNY New Paltz From: just john Date: 20 Jan 05 - 01:53 PM I suspect so -- even in a New York State institution, there's still SOME accountibility. (I'm across the river, which is why the thread caught my eye.) |
