Subject: RE: Tech: Recording tapes to CD From: robomatic Date: 21 Jan 05 - 03:30 PM I've used headphone out jack of a receiver/amp unit with success. Cassette deck connected regular fashion to receiver amp and using headphone out jack of receiver amp. Reason: I've noticed a lot of stereo cassettes have differing bias between left and right and sometimes between A side and B side of cassette. The receiver has settings that let me adjust for these differrences (The differences show up as you observe the signal on your PC audio software). I try to move the units close enough so that I can use a short cord, although in theory if you have a good shielded cable it shouldn't matter. (I wouldn't run a vacuum cleaner near the cord at the same time as I was recording, though!). Typical headpone out jack is regular. Typical line in to your computer soundcard is a mini. What works well is a jack adaptor to a mini, and a mini jack to minijack patch cord. If you have to buy one make sure it is stereo, my supplier had a lot of cords not all clearly marked. Pay attention to whether or not the cassette is pre-recorded Dolby. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recording tapes to CD From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 21 Jan 05 - 03:19 PM I believe it is called a TOS-Link Cable. Should have had one come with the MZ-NH1. I wonder if that's the one in the specs as a Digital Cable. It should be a black cable, one end plugs into the Line-In of the MD but has no discernable major metal pieces. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recording tapes to CD From: John MacKenzie Date: 21 Jan 05 - 03:02 PM I think the optical out on the hifi is only for the CD player George. What should I be asking for cable wise? Giok |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recording tapes to CD From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 21 Jan 05 - 02:32 PM Ummm. Why don't you plug the Line_Out of the Hi-Fi into the Line-In of the computer and record directly without the intermediary of the MD? |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recording tapes to CD From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 21 Jan 05 - 02:27 PM If your Hi-Fi has an Optical Out, take an Optical Cable and plug it into the Optical In of the MD. It should be the same connector. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recording tapes to CD From: treewind Date: 21 Jan 05 - 11:59 AM Headphone line out to MD line in is right if that's all you have. Are you transferring from MD to PC via USB? If your PC has sound connectors you could go straight from the hifi headphone socket to the PC's line in and bypass the MD stage. Or is that a problem because they aren't in the same room? Anahata |

Subject: Tech: Recording tapes to CD From: John MacKenzie Date: 21 Jan 05 - 11:46 AM I have treated myself to a Sony MZ-NH1 and as I can transfer recordings from it to my PC I want to know if it is possible to transfer tapes from my Hi Fi to my MD. My HiFi has two outlets, headphones, and an optical one which seems to be for CDs only. Would it be possible to connect the headphone 'line out' to the MD 'line in', or 'mike line in' using a cable with the appropriate jack plags at either end? If not where do I go from here? If I can get them onto my PC I can burn them onto CD, and junk my tape deck, or at least store the tapes in the loft as they take up so much more room than CDs. Giok |
