May the 'regulars' and the 'guests' here at this corner cafe recognize the importance of positive thought and prayer.

May the 'liberal' move first and formost with compassion and consideration of others... and may this lead to a new sense of congeniality that includes as well as embraces the goodness of people.

May we all learn to turn disconsolate rudeness into abiding joy and love.

That's a very wise and well-thought prayer, Thomas. Good for you.

I may disagree greatly with George Bush's policies, but I do not wish him ill. I hope he changes his ideas and his policies to something more constructive. And if not, well, we'll deal with it and Life will go on.

I also understand Guest's concerns. We all see things from our own angle that makes sense to us.

Peace be with you too.

Then you are very thin skinned, and your beliefs do not hold up to the slightest scrutiny, much less provocation, ttr.

How is my disagreeing with your religious opinions and beliefs, and speaking my mind frankly and openly about my secular beliefs, being "mean spirited and affrontive" in an open, free chat forum?

You nothing about my character and ability to love, and to suggest that anyone could suss that out among strangers in an online chat forum is just plain silly and immature.

My health is excellent, BTW. And if you wish to be left in peace about your religious beliefs, don't post prayers in public chat forums on folk music message boards that ARE NOT HERE for religious believers to use as a support group for their beliefs.

Please leave me in peace.

I'm not in need of your help either, ttr.

"Hatred, anger and doubt are vices...never virtues"

Unless, of course, it is directed at an anonymous Mudcat guest, as you so amply have demonstrated in this and many threads past.

Anger and doubt have brought about many a positive change, so that is one thing I believe you are totally on the wrong course about, ttr. Anger and doubt are often exactly the right note for circumstances that demand such reactions, and move us to take positive action, or refrain from taking action--whatever the case may be.

I can agree that blinding hate isn't productive. But intense dislike can serve a lot of good purposes too, like trying to get rid of the politicians and ruling elite who are truly harming millions and billions of people everyday.

You see, not everyone agrees with your moral framework, ttr. So you should really stop acting as if you, and you alone, hold the key to all the right answers.

I am being absolutely sincere.

Praying, and wishing people well, all people... is good. Hatred, anger and doubt are vices... never virtues... and can not bring about positive reorientation in this world.

When I pray for two entirely different people it is with my whole heart though it be for two entirely different (and probably unknowable) reasons.

You know me. I'm as ingenuous as anyone, anywhere...

If you had any sense of sport, you would leave me be... I'm but a sitting duck in the crosshairs of your projections.

And you could BE anyone anywhere... but you're not. Only pain seeks to hurt others, and I cannot help you because I don't know who you are... And I am sorry for this.

Peace be with you.
ttr

I am not the least bit concerned about people praying for me or not praying for me, as I'm convinced prayer is nothing more than manipulative wishful thinking, bordering on medieval delusion.

I don't believe for a second that it will "work". Which is why I don't have much patience with praying for instead of working for change. It's a cop out. It is also commonly used nowadays to make the Democrats look more religious, and therefore more palatable to those who vote for Republican preacher politicians. In other words, I think it is phony and disingenuous sort of prayer.

Actually, I love loud people. I come from loud and gregarious people. Loud has nothing to do with it.

The shrillness of religionists, OTOH...

And no, I won't be tolerant of religionists in our midst, when they insist upon shoving their false piety down the throats of the nation, and into our faces in every public forum, including this one, where they can bully their way in.

And that would include you and your pietisitic prayers, ttr.

But we may be tollerant of the pious people who inhabit our political institutions and stroll through our public squares...

Perhaps you have a 'legitimate gripe' (perhaps THE primal liberal extasy) about loud and obnoxious people in general... and religion may have little or nothing to do with it...

But I don't preach prayer and religion, and therein lies the difference in the US of A, where prayer and religion is constitutionally enshrined to be kept out of our political institutions and the public square.

It also won't help save us from his right wing repression. It will only perpetuate it, by aligning itself with right wing repressive religious moralizing, disguising itself as "faith and values" preaching.

What is needed to counter the madness of King George is not faith and prayers, but to counter the use of religion and religious moralizing language with candor, honesty, facts, and framing the debate in terms of "we the people" instead of "the bottom line".

well, the prayer asks that he do well and be inspired to do better, and it's hard to argue with that, but as you can see, many of us suspect that he's beyond help.

The man is in WAY over his head, and his take on belief works against his finding his way out.

All *I* hope for is that he gets thru the next 4 years without some monumentally stupid blunder.

Why should education matter? If you weren't as careful to pick your parents as "W" was, you deserve your fate. Predestination lives.

Interersting that his father claimed to be "the education president". Starting a war turns out to be considerably more popular.

The president announced new budget slashes. And he's slashing education. It is a genius plan — when the kids graduate they won't have the math skills to calculate how much debt they're actually in.

May You be well and may God bless you and your family.

May you be given all the respect that your station requires... may we bring out your very best... at bringing out our very best.

May God grant you the insight and compassion that are necessary for the world leadership position that you hold as President of the United States.

May The Lord guide you through the hardships and the glamour, and may He give unto you the strength and the fortitude to guide us well as "One Nation under God"...

May God give you the power to listen carefully to Him.

May you have the cleanest conscience, and the clearest vsion.

May we look up to you in our day to day lives and be proud to serve.. and to prosper... and to sow prosperity as we reap peace.

...and may you find forgiveness in your heart for those of us, like myself, who have discompassionately criticized you as a person, far too freely... for we are misusing our voices in doing so.

God Bless you George W. Bush, and thank you for your Faith and your Devotion.
