Subject: RE: Review: i found a new band called generic tribe From: The Shambles Date: 12 Apr 05 - 06:12 AM And instantly recognisable as such from the message title. People just don't post stuff like that for real. I find it totally off putting. Perhaps folk don't post stuff like that for real - but it is getting increasingly difficult on this forum to know what (or who) is real. When some members make-up another membership name in order to pose as someone else in order to press other poster's buttons (as a supposed joke) - some people may be prepared to use the same tacics for other purposes - like self-promotion? Some may have already done so and may still be doing so - for all we know? |

Subject: RE: Review: i found a new band called generic tribe From: The Shambles Date: 12 Apr 05 - 05:44 AM Nothing inherently wrong with posing as Joe Public to drum up interest. Mildly dishonest, that's all *Smiles*…………. This judgement - coming from the originator of the following thread - whilst he was posing another member of 'Joe Public'? Mudcat censorship – a proposal |

Subject: RE: Review: i found a new band called generic tribe From: George Papavgeris Date: 12 Apr 05 - 02:39 AM From CDBaby: "The Generic Tribe: Music for the planet; eccentric but exuberant, unrestrained jiggly pop meets 60's rock and psychedelia, meets hip hop, emo and electronics along the way. A collage of color and inspiration. " Had a listen. Don't sound like folk to me. But hey, that's my taste, have a listen and make up your minds - just google the name of the band. Also, there is someone with the handle "scantron" that has left a number of messages on various forums drumming up interest. The "awsome band" thread on Mudcat is just one such example. Turns out he/she is a member of the band (says so in one such message). Nothing inherently wrong with posing as Joe Public to drum up interest. Mildly dishonest, that's all; standard marketing trick. And some on this forum might actually like their stuff. But not me. |

Subject: RE: Review: i found a new band called generic tribe From: radriano Date: 05 Apr 05 - 06:43 PM Thanks, Jane. How about a bit more information? The term "folk" covers a wide range of styles and subject matter. Where do Generic Tribe call home? Do they have any recordings? |
