What are you shouting about, John?
I may be able to get to the Ship on thursday. I fancy having a wee trip over to the RSPB centre at Bempton Cliffs to have a look at the gannets and puffins - I've never been there during the nesting season, and it's only two miles from Sewerby Hall. Apparently in the nineteenth century, some of the locals used to be lowered down the cliffs on ropes to collect eggs - it was known as "climmin'". It must have been fun, with 150 feet of vertical rotten rock! I used to do a lot of rock climbing, and I wouldn't have touched it with a bargepole.
I think it's going to be a superb weekend.
Cheers
Ray

We will almost certainly make it for some time. One plan is to come over Friday and then drive back home for the Saturday evening commitment and finish off back at Brid later in the evening. See how keen we are :0) We are also hoping to get down to the Sacrewell weekend at the other end of the month.

What you need to remember is that it's not a festival. It's just a relaxing weekend's camping enjoying the company of like-minded people - whether you know them or not. Many people who enjoy old time American music in this country find it difficult to meet up with others, and this is a good chance in a great spot. If you go in clutching your favorite instrument and you see a jam - go and check it out. It's your chance to learn some good old tunes and songs, and maybe a bit of Appalachian dancing. Old time sessions make learning tunes relatively easy, because the tunes are played many times over - the more you play them the better they get.
Cheers
Ray

There is now a downloadable sheet giving details at the FOAOTMAD site. When you get there, it's the first item on the EVENTS page.
If you're a musician, a dancer, or a foaotmad member you can camp free for the weekend at a special site that's been reserved for us. Come along and learn some Old Time tunes, and pick up some playing techniques on the standard Old Time instruments - five string banjo, fiddle, guitar, bass, maybe lap dulcimer, mandolin. The only pecussion we encourage is the sound of dancers' feet.
Cheers
Ray

I'll get this in before Chairman Ray does....

Friends of American Old Time Music and Dance here (but not totally) in the UK

There's also our (in)famous Spring Camp, Sacrewell Farm, near Peterborough, at the end of May and almost certainly most people you meet at Sewerby will be there too. More details on the website and if there's nothing there yet about Sewerby I'm sure someone will get it to me so I can have our trusty webmaster set it up.

Have fun, it's a bit too far for me

Nick
