There are things on on from mid-day to midnight but we can't get there til 2pm. Boats are there already to look at. Activities centred around the Syntan at crane wharf and there will be plenty of oportunities to play and sing.

Look for the Syntan and introduce yourself everyone is welcome.

Any more info about times etc. of sessions? I'd love to come & play along for a bit tomorrow. Or do I just come to the Beck at about 2.00pm with my guitar and look lost?

Summary of a summary about Trafalgar WE

Trafalgar Weekend, the national start is 1900hrs Friday 21st October.

All round Britain is a 200th year celebration of a defining moment in history when Nelson and his sailors defeated a fleet of French and Spanish ships off Cape Trafalgar.   (There are many songs about this).   There will be motor boats, yachts, a canal boat, a motor barge and a Humber Keel from the six nautical organisations on the River Hull assembled on Beverley |Beck.

Hopefully about 10 Boats will be on view on Friday, Comrade with sails aloft if conditions allow. 1900 hrs to 1945hrs Beverley Town Brass Band will perform at Crane Wharf.

On Saturday there may be up to 30 boats on view. From 1200hrs there will be music and singing spots by John Thrawl (sea shanties) Danny McCloud (from Newcastle, known country wide for his Sea Shanties), and sessions with local folk singers and musicians. There fill also be face painting.

We were asked what exactly the sessions would be like and we said ad-hock. Last time we had sessions on the Syntan it was like one big informal party. All welcome.

Anything on the theme of boats/Trafalgar/Nelson would go down well, but everything else appreciated too.

Dancing depends on the weather.

Barge is moored a few meters down beck from where it was at festival,
but you can see it from top of beck.

Best access is waterside road and first left.

No bar but Somerfield is around the corner and open late.

Sounds like a very good way to spend a Saturday afternoon. am I right in thinking that the barge is on the left after you've turned right out of the Leisure Centre. Can you park around there?

The Barge Preservation Society, who have refurbished the boat are keen to get it used by the local community. As part of that it is proposed to run some folk sessions on the boat and the first of these is on July 9th from 3pm.

the basic information needed is:

There is no bar - bring your own

It is a no smoking venue but smokers can use the wheelhouse if they wish to light up

It will hold about 30 people comfortably

starts at 3pm with no set finish, but possibly 11pm

Contact Graham and Jo for details
