Subject: RE: BS: crossword help From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 25 Jul 05 - 07:47 PM I can't do cryptic crosswords on my own, but I'm quite good in combination with my wife. I can often guess the answer, but she's the one who can unravel the clue so as to justify it. Maybe it's some right brain/ left brain thing. Basic rule of cryptics is, if you can't understand how the clue works, you haven't solved it, even if you have the word right. |

Subject: RE: BS: crossword help From: BK Lick Date: 24 Jul 05 - 11:12 PM La Inglese has nailed these two, it seems to me -- electric and digit. pick = elect, food which doesn't appear completely = ric(e), thrilling = ... electricand digit = "a number"also used when speaking "of fingers." Both would be considered high quality clues by solvers of Frank Lewis's puzzles in The Nation. |
