Subject: RE: BS: When has total ig(n)orance ever stopped... From: Little Hawk Date: 06 Sep 05 - 05:43 PM Thank you, Joe. Of all the places to put a typo, the title has got to be the worst. |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Stilly River Sage Date: 06 Sep 05 - 04:11 PM I figure that if Max ever has to decide to keep some but not all of the database and accompanying files, that he'd dump the BS before the rest. I hope that my contributions above the line are worthy of sticking around for a while. Sometimes the stuff below the line needs to go away, probably more often than it acutally does. The William Burroughs trick of scrambling the pages (aka posts) after that last crash did add a sort of Beat charm to the place. The resulting confusion is an improvement for many of them. :) SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Wolfgang Date: 06 Sep 05 - 03:43 PM Quite often, actually, in the upper section. I hardly remember ignorant Mudcatters trying to discuss fingerpicking with Rick Fielding or to discuss music theory with M.Ted. I see much more restraint in that respect in the music section (though Malcolm might disagree here a bit). In the BS section, however,... Wolfgang |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 06 Sep 05 - 02:16 PM That says it all. Yeah, it does, doesn't it? Not sure what it says, but it damned sure says all of it. |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Peace Date: 06 Sep 05 - 02:05 PM Well, recall the vast numbers of people who did NOT post to the spatula thread. That says it all. |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Donuel Date: 06 Sep 05 - 02:04 PM If it did itch, George has proved that he is pretty handy with a chain saw. |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: John Hardly Date: 06 Sep 05 - 02:00 PM now see, if we could implement a mudcat policy of addressing ignorance while ignoring stupidity, we might get somewhere. Trouble seems to be, though, that the stupid are hard to ignore and the ignorant impervious to change. *BG* |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Bill D Date: 06 Sep 05 - 01:35 PM ignorance, theoretically, is curable. Stupidity is not. We have some of both in this forum. One of my favorite quotations is: "It's too bad ignorance doesn't itch" |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Don Firth Date: 06 Sep 05 - 01:31 PM Nah, Little Hawk, leave it as is. I like it that way. Actually, ignorance is not the problem. We're all ignorant of something. The problem is stupidity. Stupidity is when a person becomes aware that he or she is ignorant of something and refuses to to repair the omission in their knowledge, often because it might conflict with something they want to cling to. Or knowing that they are ignorant, but going ahead and acting anyway. Plenty of examples in the news. Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Mr Red Date: 06 Sep 05 - 01:19 PM there is a brand of ignorance that comes in the guise of pedantry. It is just as useless when it does not relate to the question, only the spelling. And may refer to the interpretation of the question. But don't let me stop you........................ |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 06 Sep 05 - 01:17 PM Well, there's ignorance, and there's ignorance. Displays of ignorance should be avoided at all costs. Ignorance implies that you do not know anything, you should know it, and you are a blithering idiot for not knowing it. Those who openly exhibit their ignorance should realize that there is a good chance they will be ignored, derided, or confused with George W. Bush. Common, run-of-the-mill ignorance is a far less serious offense. It is often possible to use one's ignorance as a platform for launching truly brilliant examples of obfuscation, circumlocution and plain old-fashioned bullshit. I believe it was the great philosopher Microcephaleze who said, "Ignorance is one of the founts from which high quality BS doth flow. The other two are beer and forgetting to take one's medication." |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: jeffp Date: 06 Sep 05 - 12:57 PM It obviously doesn't stop some people, as this thread will attest. |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Little Hawk Date: 06 Sep 05 - 12:52 PM Good responses. ;-) Specially yours, kendall. |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Bill D Date: 06 Sep 05 - 12:46 PM seems to me the question is impossible to answer, as total ignorance may well have stopped a few, and one cannot tabulate non-events..... however, I could offer some observations about the % that DO get through! |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Les B Date: 06 Sep 05 - 12:38 PM Or, as a genius once answered when asked "What's the difference between ignorance and arrogance ?" - "I don't know, and I don't care!" |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: gnu Date: 06 Sep 05 - 12:37 PM It has stopped me many times... just not enough times. |

Subject: RE: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: kendall Date: 06 Sep 05 - 12:18 PM The difference between genius and ignorance is...genius has limits. |

Subject: BS: When has total igorance ever stopped... From: Little Hawk Date: 06 Sep 05 - 12:15 PM ...anyone from posting on the Mudcat? This question was just asked on another thread, and I thought it was one that deserved a whole brand new thread of its own. |
