Cuilionn, try resetting your cookie, at least that works for me in similar circs.
Betty, both of those tunes are in the database. You can find them by putting the words [after the ball] in brackets like that in the blue box upper right and the song title will come up. Click on that, and you'll get words and maybe the tune at the bottom.
Ditto for Bonnie Black Bess.
Blessings,
Barbara

So maybe we owe some apologies to the hapless souls who used this thread to request things in the interim, hmmm?

Barry, I agree there's alot of careless people out there and I wear alot of orange during the season. Don't like guns myself but respect the rights of others who hunt safely. You are a heck of a guy to give up your rifle for your wife, must be an incredible wife! Didn't mean to offend anybody. I was just .. looking for lyrics...Regards, Robin

I should tell you that my one crime there was to create a limerick with the word "bitchin'" (as in surfer slang) and being sent to Disney was the result. I didn't know the forum had the feature of sending people there. I emailed to the webmaster asking why that had happened and got the short reply "watch your language". I scurried back to the Mudcat.

Barbara, I'm sure that's why the garden and home forum chose the Disney homepage for outcasts. The funny thing is that most of the participants are ladies who are into crafts, prayer groups, and idle chit-chat. They mostly get into trouble when they start telling jokes.

When I met my wife I got rid of my rifle, how do you say "O, that'll never happen" when a previous boyfriend was shot through the head & killed, while walking a country road, by a hunter.
Robin, I'm not against the hunting just the hunter. Lived further north more towards certral New Hampshire, had a farm. Got to be we had to post the No Hunting signs all over to protect ourselves, they were shooting at the house (I'll never know what they thought they'd do with a dead door nail or barnside), we couldn't go out when hunting season started, I almost became a christian like those deer but we moved instead, not because the deer drove us out either, they're pretty friendly folks when you own the apple trees, we left because, even though we had all the red meat you could ever possibly want, we were aleast a half hour to the nearest candy bar & 45 min to a pub (both very important to an expecting father). When I was in art school, there was a fellow student who would come up with really unusual subjects for his paintings. One such canvas had a large inverted orange triangle with wild eyes and a frightened mouth, thick impasto lines of paint radiating out from the center. The title was Judas as a carrot.

Joe, there is a gardening and household forum I visit once in awhile that has a filter for any word that is on the taboo list... profanity, cursing, words like condom, .... Mudcat-type discussions would never survive there for long. Anyway, if you type in a message and submit it with a taboo word, you go directly to the Disney homepage. 'Going to Disney' is jargon used on that forum. If you are sent to Disney often enough, you are banned from the forum.

Now, Joe! Equal time is demanded here. If you link them all the Christian Deer Hunters, then there HAS to be a link to the Vegetable Hunters' Spiritual Guide: lessons in moral and ethical mushroom separation; pontificating on the righteousness of carrots when meeting their Maker, through the "Gates of Pearly Whites"; and, don't forget the daily Lessons of Lettuce, as in "let us" eat you! Let us pray! And, Let us hunt with the power of the Lord of Kale behind our every need! Amen, brothers and sisters of the celery stalk! Armed with trowels and knives; hoes and shovels, the mighty shall prevail in bringing home the fake bacon made from pure, free-range vegetable matter!*

*may contain any of the following: feline pre-processed grass for smooth texture; gizzard stones (obtained only from free-flying wild birds that have voluntarily chucked up for the cause); and/or, wind-harvested twigs from the covetted pseudo-carnipupae shrub.

Yes! You can enjoy all of this in a spiritual sense. The Guide will share chapter and verse with you. Learn to quote the Gospel according to St. Mary Jane about the efficacy of grass in the diet; witness to your friends about the depth of the meaning of life you've encountered since becoming a vegetable hunter based on solid spiritual practises, such as the morning ritual of sacrifice when burning herbs bring one's consciousness into a higher level, in tune with those plant beings one has the proper license to kill; then, there's the prayer at noon, when one can hear the chanting of the "bush-beaters", softening up the twigs from the pseudo-carnipupae, for a lovely dinner, spent among the very plants one is hunting. While in this idyliic setting, one can encourage their friends to put down their guns and other paraphernalia of meat-eaters, to divest themselves of the shackles of convention which bind them to a voracious god of the masses, and join in a celebration of salvation through the greenhealing of vegetable mastication! Exult in your superior status in the world when you announce to everyone how pure you are in body, mind and spirit through the cleansing purity of hunting for your own vegetables, of doing so in a morally and spiritually based manner, and, finally, by spreading the Word through Witnessing door-to-door, most especially where Christian Deer Hunters are known to congregate! So Will It Be, Now & Forever More!(Beer drinkers are welcome, as they've already shown a propensity for killing green matter, such as hops!)

Triumphantly Kat!

Well, I usually say eat nothing with eyes, but have been known to eat fish myself, so I guess I can't say that.

I am a big fan of the catch & release movement, though!

I do wish to let everyone know, though, the murderous glee I frolic in when I pull a carrot screaming, wrenched from the bosom of its mother AND the absolute horror in its scream when I

EAT IT RAW, KICKING AND SCREAMING!

. MMMMmmmmm, tasty, tasty orange and organic "roughy" (ala the fish by that name!)!

Then of course there's the lettuce, as I flay it live, peeling its layers and tearing them apart, limb by limb so to speak.

You see....we veggies aren't so innocent after all! We can be into blood and guts and gore, well figuratively speaking of course, just as much as the next hunter. And, you don't even want to hear what a band of drunken veggies can do to a forest when looking for "shrooms"!

You know how the old stories say a mandrake root will scream like a banshee when pulled from the earth? Well just imagine that a hundredfold when mushrooms get decapitated! Their bodies quiver, the stems shrivel and turn brown. Then, the severed heads squirm and bubble, striving to jump out of the heat of butter in a cast iron skillet over a red-hot campfire. They are soooo slick and tasty when they go down; besides if one wears earplugs, the unpleasant hysterics are barely discernible.

Ode to the veggies:

Deep in the darkness of the forest/ There dwells a little 'shroom/ It hides its face and cries at night/ Awaiting out its doom!/

Don't rip me from my body!/ Don't take my head to eat!/ Surely you mistake me/ For someone else's MEAT!/

A carrot tosses its ferny top/ And quivers in the loam/ It knows the clock has struck at one/ Birds hear its eerie moan!/

Don't rip me from the dirt!/ Don't take my bod to eat!/ Surely you mistake me/ For something good to eat!/

Humbly submited for your amusement (or not!).

I eat venison because I've seen the starved animals after a hard winter. I've seen the havoc deer make on the roads when 'progress" has moved them out of their enviorment. I also eat veggies that were once alive. Okay I feel better no offense intended but... katlaughing, is it okay if I fish?

Hey, ever notice how guns and alcohol always seem to go together? When I lived in Wisconsin, I used to love to canoe the lakes and rivers of the Kettle Moraine. Autumn was a particularly beautiful time for canoeing - until I got spooked. I was alone in the only canoe out on a lake one perfect afternoon, and I started to notice all the duck blinds that surrounded the lake. Then I realized that the blinds were full of guys with guns who were drinking large quantities of brandy.
Haven't gone canoeing during hunting season since then. Luckily, most of the best canoe places here in Northern California are places that don't permit hunting.

Well Kat, I'm glad I gave you a soapbox...and I share many of your sentiments, but I am an irreverent soul and when someone pointed me to that website, I personally about busted a gut laughing. Then it came to me. During deer season I saw big Miller banners in front of damn near every bar proclaiming "WELCOME HUNTERS." And there it was...the obvious tie-in. I mean every opening day there are half a dozen hunters shot in Ohio. A little more help from the Miller folks and we could do even better...and if these folks were members of the C.D.H.A. then there buddies could say a few words over them right on the spot!!!

EULOGY FOR BUFORD

O Lord, take our good buddy Buford into thy Heavenly Herd. He was a good ol' boy who knew that 27 was his limit, 'les somebody else was drivin'. So you gotta' forgive him for wearin' that brown coat with the white fanny pack 'cause it was about all he had left to wear after his ex sicced that lawyer fella' on him for back child support. And God, please bestow your benediction on me an Cletus. We had no way aknowin' that Buford had fallen into that dead and rottin' sycamore and got that funny lookin' branch stuck in his coonskin hat. 'Sides that Lord, there MUSTA' been sumpin' wrong with them three Head Cheese sandwiches that Buford had with his beers. I mean when he has aretchin', well me and Cletus woulda' swore it was a buck in rut. So long Buford, we'll miss yuh. We're awful sorry, but I know you understand...'specially since you had a kinda' similar thing happen a few years back with your ex-brother-in-law, Hiram. Dear God, please take our friend's soul to your bosom and forgive him his earthly transgressions. Cletus and me are gonna' take his beat up ol' pick-up and his Ithaca and leave his dead ass right here...'cause ain't nobody else gonna' miss him. Plus, the S.O.B. didn't have no money and we can't afford no funeral or any more trouble with the Law. AMEN

Irreverently as always,
catspaw

Joe & Dale:

Nowhere can beat Colorado and/or Wyoming as deer hunting capitols. schhols are let out there, too, for hunting. Mayhap growing up there is what brought me to such a radical notion that animals should be let to live?

I can't count the number of times I read a newspaper, when growing up, of somebody or somebody's horse, cow, etc. being shot by some brain-impaired yoyo with a gun, who couldn't recognize the fact that wildlife don't shop at Coast to Coast for orange vests, nor do they have owners who will buy it for them and drape it over their bods in the vain hope someone will recognize them as a domestic and NOT shoot!

I was raised with guns and became a crack shot, but we never went hunting and were taught a healthy respect for guns and the lethal damage they could do. We weren't even allowed to point toy guns and if we did take a gun up with intent to do damage, which none of us ever did, we were taught to be "damn sure" we were ready to accept responsibility for the consequences and, quite frankly, to shoot to kill. My great grandfather had been in shootout with a sheepherder in Colorado and wound up killing him in self defense. When the sheepherder's friends tried to get him convicted of murder, the widow went to court and said it was the best thing anybody had ever done for her. Her son became my grandad's best friend.

Ah, well, Joe, didn't mean to go on, but guns and hunting do get my dander up, esp. in this benighted state (WY) where they voted to lower the age for legal hunting to 12!

Men in church on Sunday? Not when they can be out in the great wide open wreaking havoc in the forests of God's/Goddess's Creation! Those deer are such heathens, ya' know?

On a sarcastic bent, I am,

Kat

Ah, Kat, you just don't understand. I grew up in Wisconsin, where deer hunting is more sacred than religious worship - more sacred, even, than football. A Christian Deer Hunters Association makes perfect sense. You certainly wouldn't expect to find men in church during deer season, would you?
I've never been hunting myself - but I was born in Detroit and didn't move to Wisconsin until I was ten, so I was treated as an outsider.

Talk about Click Go the Shears!Ouch! As a perpetrator of the "Anybody Ever Heard This Before" genre of thread, I observed Joe's READ THIS memo with a certain amount of inner guilt and remorse.I have experienced similar emotions while sitting in the rear pew of the Antioch Baptist Church, but rarely outside those sacred confines.

I have to say(though as a newcomer to this wonderful site I must defer to Joe,Art,Cats and others in this regard)that some of these types of threads are quite interesting not particularly for what they reveal about the subject song, but because of the various highly interesting divergent lines of thought that stem from them.My favorite things about this site are the intelligent, irreverant, and very humorous people who seem to be able to take anything from woodchucks to broken ukeleles and turn it into fascinating discussion. Also,I would never have found out about the Christian Deer Hunters Association otherwise. Thanks Catspaw! LEJ

Hey Joe...Ya' got that message so it's kinda' "pastable" and you can just call it up and throw it in? Actually Joe, I been waitin' for you to snap a branch on this issue and dang if I didn't hear it clear over hear in the Appalachian foothills! *grin*

Or, ya' know, you could come up with a "stock" message sending them to the condom thread...or say, the groundhog thing. Then if they come back you could maybe send them here and totally confuse them. Actually that site confuses me.

Use a little of that MoJo and come up with three or four stock messages to suit each occasion that you can just whack right up there. One nice and pleasant suggestion followed by deteriorating send-offs.

'Course I kinda' got the flu and feel like death warmed over triggering this nasty streak in me.
