Yes, we're ok- dealing with detours galore due to washed-out roads, and of course dealing with other kinds of loss (I'll check in on the ATV thread after this). Life's just been too busy to spend much time on the computer. But I'm grateful to you all for your kind wishes, and ask that you keep your fingers crossed this rainy week as we hold our breaths hoping that Highland Lake dam holds out- THAT one could affect me more directly!!

Take care, dear friends,

Allison

Animaterra's reply of yesterday, to an email that reached her:

Thanks, Love! I'm high and dry, but lots of people are suffering, the main road for me to get to work is washed out, and it is indeed a worrying time. I have plenty of food, water, and friendship. I appreciate your prayers! Love, Allison

Allison has posted on Concertina.net and she is OK, but is in fear of the dam breaking.
I hope she gets out of there.

Keene has the dubious honor of making the Guinness Book of Records (as Micca and I discovered) for having the most jack o' lanterns lit at6 any one time. Portland tried to beat them last year but I believe they failed. This may interfere with this year's festivities.

SOunds as though it may take some time before they let people return. Thye are worried about some dams possibly breaking. The forecast for New England calls for rain through NEXT Friday, at least. Good thing is, it IS hilly, there is high ground, and folks there are pretty well-versed in how to deal with it.

I was wondering why we hadn't heard back form her in the ATV thread.

Thanks, Sorcha, for bringing this up. I'd missed the news.

According to the news reports, the worst flooding is in Keene (near her town), but her actual town is uphill of it. Sometimes evacs are called on account of lack of emergency services when closed roads cut them off-- not necessarily because an area is going underwater.

Also, in hilly country the danger is not pooled water rising, but runoff-- boulders and trees washing down narrow streams and taking houses and infrastructure out with them. In our area, people get this a lot; those who are in a vulnerable area know it and know how to watch the signs. So again I would bet she's just fine and busy helping other folks or long gone to a safer place.

Well, if she is being evacuated, she probably won't be near a computer for awhile, Sorch. Best calm down and try to keep in mind that our Allison is smart and surrounded by people who love her dearly-- I bet she has her pick of places to go.
