One look at the headers in any one of the various CIA and FBI spoofs makes it really obvious the lame-asses are only connected with the FBI as potential suspects.

What's interesting is that the FBI phone number I saw on the "FBI message" is, by report, a real FBI number.

I would think that if you never open an attachment whose origin is uncertain, you'd never have a problem.

BS: Email from the CIA for previous discussion.

You're not the first by any means. There was another thread about this about a week ago.

Believe the FBI. It's a scam.

W32 sober has been around for quite a while, but it can take over your machine and is dangerous if you software isn't current and your AV isn't up to date.

Delete and forget about it until you get the one from the CIA and then the one from the Secret Service and then the one from the "Home Security Administration. Just delete all of them.

John

Have just received two e-mails this a.m. reading someting like this:-
We have detected your log in on up to thirty illegal sites, a list of questions is attached which you must answer.
They appeared to be from a ligit FBI or CIA site, but my anti-virus clocked them as infected, and as I am in the UK, I consider myself to be a bit out of their jurisdiction (at least for a while!)
I deleted them and then went to the official FBI site. They have a section covering e-mail fraud, and list this E-mail as one on the rounds at the moment. It is infected with a variant of the W32/sober virus, not sure what it does, but sounds nasty!
The FBI assert that they do not send unsolicited e-mails and advise recipients to delete unopened.
This virus is apparently the one which is the new 'big danger', I seem to be receiving a lot of spam infected with it. Watch out folks!

FC
