I had the opportunity to meet Coretta Scott King in 1987 during a civil rights march through Forsythe County GA....she was most gracious and I believe that she did a tremendous amount of good in this world.

Rest in Peace Mrs. King.

Michelle

I rememeber seeing and hearing her 'round '67 or 68 and thoguht to myself, "Yeah, you go, Martin!!!" She was so articulate and downright drop dead beautiful...

You done as good as you could have, Coretta...

Heaven is a little richer tonight...

Bobert

I think that 'Obit' is an appropriate prefix for this thread. The problem is that that automatically posts it above the line. I have no objection to putting it below. Just don't put it in the back of the bus.

Actually Mrs King was a classically trained piano player. That was her field of study when she met Dr King. It was a shame she gave it up. I've never heard her play - but that might have been an interesting addition to her husbands career.

She was involved so deeply and for so many years that her deeds and accomplishments should be seen to be at least the equal of her husband. She branched out into areas where Martin had yet to go. A beautiful soul in a tireless body. Rest easy.

Often, when a man such as Dr. King is an important figure, the wife is unknown. Mrs. King stood front and center her entire life, working endlessly. Perhaps it's time to tell her story.

Seems to me that obits (even of admirable public figures) should be "below the line" at Mudcat. Unless of course the dear departed is a musician or composer.

Dave Oesterreich
We usually leave Obits up top for half a day or so, and then move the non-music ones below the line. "Obit" is the appropriate thread tag to use. If it's non-music, we'll move it in due time.

A beautiful, elegant lady who has been as much a force for civil rights as her husband.
RIP

You just beat me to the punch, Ebbie. It is my belief that Martin changed the world in profound ways. It is also my belief that Coretta gave the changes legs, and real substance. God be good to the both of them.

There are times when I really do hope that we rejoin others on the other side. Not only did her husband change the world as we know it but his wife worked tirelessly to make it ever better.

Rest in Peace
