There's also the macro/socio-economic level which develops according to its own laws. For example, businesses, companies, corporations are required to increase profits or lose their investors. That's all. Ivor |

Subject: RE: BS: Yu Dongyue free but broken From: Rapparee Date: 24 Feb 06 - 09:31 AM It's simple: greed, the concern for "the bottom line", has caused the US, the UK, and other countries to sell out. More concern for money and corporations than for human beings has caused the WORLD to veer away from the "social contract" in favor of unrestrained capitalism. (And no, I'm neither a socialist nor a capitalist.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Yu Dongyue free but broken From: Bill D Date: 24 Feb 06 - 09:08 AM This is the country that we have allowed to make many of the shoes and clothes we wear in the USA...and thousands of other items. I don't know if it is also true in the UK and Europe. Perhaps our (current) leaders ideas of economic values, as well as 'security' values are beginning to resemble those we profess to decry in stories like that. Boy, I'd like to be wrong about that! |

Subject: BS: Yu Dongyue free but broken From: Wolfgang Date: 24 Feb 06 - 08:49 AM One of the better know of the Tianamen protesters of 1989 has been set free now. That looks like good news but it isn't. He is free but mentally disturbed, babbling incoherently and unable to recognise friends or family members. inmates said he had been tied to a pole and left in the sun for several days before being locked in solitary confinement for another two years. (from Amnesty International news) The crime for which he originally got a 20 year sentence was throwing paint at a Mao Zedong portrait. Wolfgang |
