so I take it that you are not an avarage menopausal lady with hersute hair growing on her chin or top lip, worried by her husbands attitude to her problem? Or maybe you live in Greece where all women over 50 are hairy and are respected and there is no problem?
Yes it is my job, but funny enough I give out lots of free advice because I am a thruthful person and if you read back I said see your doctor,maybe we should all accept that as women get older they grow hair in places they do not want and men go BALD!!

I am always amazed at the lengths to which some people go to alter their normal physical characteristics to conform to what some arbiter of social acceptability deems fashionable.

Oh well, on the up side I guess it keeps people employed and the economy stimulated.

so rightyou are scoville about medication, steroids can increase hair growth, so can hormone treatment, other medication and even stress!
Worse problem is the menopause, waxing can make you feel better short term, but trust me it will make it worse in the long term, electrolysis is the best way to go but it is expensive and can take a long time.But like I said before make sure the therapist is highly qualified, look for certificates and other proof that they know what they are doing, in the wrong hands this treatment can burn or scar,see what I mean about laser!!( Only in the hands of a qualified consultant Doctor, who will probably be only doing red vein therapy or correction of skin irregularities not hair removal.)
I cannot believe here I am on mudcat talking about superflouous hair removal,but if it helps! It is a really serious issue when it is you, in the UK? pm me, there is a list of qualified therapists available

My mother's medications have made her furrier than she used to be, but billybob may be right--you (and your hairdresser, who was probably looking at you in harsh flourescent lighting) may be the only one who notices. Dad and I (I'm a girl) both have bushy eyebrows, anyway, so Mom still looks pretty hairless to us even when she's griping that she looks like Sasquatch. Which is not to say you shouldn't do something if it REALLY bothers you, only that it may not be as big a deal as it seems.

Mom gets her eyebrows--which are still much more sparse than mine--and "moustache" waxed off every once in awhile. I can't imagine paying somebody to dab me with hot wax and rip out my hair, but it makes her feel better about her appearance.

My cousin and I have both had topical laser surgery. Mine was cornea punctures for glaucoma. Don't believe the ads. It hurts. Not terribly, but it was very hard to hold still.

this is my job, we have a beauty salon, we have had lots of companies trying to sell us laser( £ thousands) BUT no one knows about the long term contra indications...the therapist and client need goggles! Where are these rays going? Also if it burns the hair what does it do to the skin? Ten years time read about the litigation.
The only permenent SAFE hair removal is electrolysis. May take lomg time but will work in the end, however if you have medical problems such as hormone disbalance, cystic overies, that needs to be addressed first. If you do go for treatment make sure the therapist is highly qualified and does a thorogh consultation first.Waxing, shaving and plucking will make the hair growth thicken and get stronger.First get your medical problem sorted, the hair may go,It is a very comman problem, but really horible if it is you, however in my experience I bet you are the only one seeing it.I am sure that when your hormones get sorted you will be fine. I have had this problem since about the day I turned 30, so I wouldn't count on this 'procedure' to straighted out the problem...I think it just comes with age itself. I, personally have very sensitive skin and cannot use any chemicals...I opt for the "Personal Touch" which is like a slim-line shaver...yes, you have to do it more often, but I don't look like someone punched me in the mouth from redness.

Yes, if it's a permanent thing I will go laser ! It's just that I know my hormones are all wrong and I wonder if it will go away ? Probably not.

Meanwhile I think that perhaps the laser thing leaves a mark for a short time ?

I haven't had it myself, but I do know people who've had the laser hair removal (and I hasten to add that I would be first in line should it ever become necessary!!!), and they both said it was no big deal. I don't think it's outrageously expensive, and the only problem is that you apparently have to go a few times before it stops growing back completely.

Hi all,

Ok, after years of proudly saying that at least I don't have a moustache.. guess what, I now have one ! ( Yes, I am a woman !).

So the lady in the hairdressers was the first to point it out. She said," Hey don't you do your moustache ?"

From then on I have noticed that I have a dark area. I am fair skinned, but I have dark hair and my eyebrows and eyelashes are black. I can't say I really see dark hairs as such, but in certain lights there is a darker area.

Ok, so my thing is that I am about to have an operation which I hope will sort out my hormones, so I am hoping that my moustache might go away once my hormones are sorted. So I don't want to do laser treatment because I hope it might be a passing phase.

( has anyone had laser treatment ? Does it leave a mark when you first do it ?)

Meanwhile, should I bleach ? Cream ? Wax ? I think waxing is out of the question because I have sensitive skin and it brings me out in spots. I have plucked one hair out because it was dark and I could see it.

Help, please !
