Subject: RE: BS: Black Monday, Taxes Done & So Am I! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Apr 06 - 02:00 PM I think these days you can buy postage online and even personalize it with photos of your kids of you want. Poke around the USPS pages or search on "online postage" and see what turns up. I have found that the PayPal/ebay postage is very easy to use, and I don't have to go to the post office. The mailing label contains everything it needs and I have a nice accurate scale in the kitchen to weigh these things. My letter carrier can pick up boxes at the house and they are easily traceable so it isn't like he's carrying an unknown box with stamps on it (that they obsess about and return so you can give it to a postal clerk in person). Subject: RE: BS: Black Monday, Taxes Done & So Am I! From: jeffp Date: 18 Apr 06 - 01:14 PM Refund's already been spent, but we did a refi on the house, which enabled me to open an IRA, among other things. I declared the deposit as being last year's funds, which means I'm sending in an amended return to get still more back from the guvvamint. I'm out of stamps, but I think I'll wait until tomorrow to get them. Today is the deadline for Federal tax forms in Maryland and I don't want to go near a post office. |

Subject: RE: BS: Black Monday, Taxes Done & So Am I! From: katlaughing Date: 18 Apr 06 - 12:27 PM I did ours and our daughter's online, in February. They were deposited, directly, before the end of February, just in time to help out with house-buying expenses on our part and house-renovation on our daughter's part. SRS, glad you made it through without a repeat of last year.:-) kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Black Monday, Taxes Done & So Am I! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Apr 06 - 12:01 PM Mine went in the mail on Sunday. I don't usually wait till the end, but last year right after I sent it in Feb and was waiting on the refund, the house was burglarized and it threw everything into the air for a while. I think I associated the timing as such that I wanted to put it off in case burglaries become a part of the tax season. :-/ We'll see if we can't go along like normal this year, with the tax return going once again to an extra mortgage payment and to pay off credit card bills. Last year it arrived just in time to be used for the burglary deductible and to put in new security items. SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Black Monday, Taxes Done & So Am I! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 18 Apr 06 - 10:58 AM Well, open mike, a smaller refund can be good news or bad, depending. If you were having too much withheld in prior years, you were getting back money you should have had all along. That was bad, and now it's fixed. If your refund is smaller because your taxes are higher, that is bad. What can you do to fix it? If nothing else, take a look at your W-4 form. |

Subject: RE: BS: Black Monday, Taxes Done & So Am I! From: Ron Davies Date: 17 Apr 06 - 11:00 PM There have been some great cartoons on this. One of them: Johnny's father holds out a hat with slips of paper in it to Johnny: "Just reach in there and pick out a number for Daddy to put on Line 62". |

Yeah, I done sent 'um a lot of dough so I figure that, hey, they can just friggin' wait on the return... No really, this year has been difficult with 1031 exchanges and lotta $$$$ movin' 'round so my tax guy said, "Hey, let's think this stuff over a little..." Bobert |

Subject: RE: BS: Black Monday, Taxes Done & So Am I! From: GUEST Date: 17 Apr 06 - 10:50 PM I know! Or pay a penalty, supposedly. Same with W-2s. Later every year, it seems. Employers, I'm sure, must have a gazillion loopholes. |

Subject: RE: BS: Black Monday, Taxes Done & So Am I! From: Rapparee Date: 17 Apr 06 - 10:47 PM I have my taxes done; it's far easier on the marriage that way. I mailed them last Friday or Saturday. My frustration is all of the 1099s that seem to arrive whenever the companies feel like mailing them. I thought they were all supposed to be mailed by January 31. |

Subject: BS: Black Monday, Taxes Done & So Am I! From: GUEST Date: 17 Apr 06 - 09:44 PM So why no great feeling of relief? Also, why oh why is it all so complex? We file a straight 1040, and it's 9 pages long! But I do love that tax procrastinator's best friend, Turbo Tax. Best invention for taxes since...well, better not go there. I heard on the news that 1/3 of all filers wait until the day. Anyone else tax procrastinating at this point? |
