OK, will do. I'm on the 'rubber band' side, or even the 'bandes de caoutchouc' - actually it's 'bande elastique' but I like the word caoutchouc. (France not Canada!)
Jo
PS here's a fuss-free (and free) HTML editor.

ah, well, Jo...send it along and I will have it...I have been **BUSY**...or it would be done by now...(it can't be TOO hard..It's just decisions!.... the metaphor for the way I do things is 'dragging a brick with a rubber band'..('gum band'? for those on the other side of the pond?)...you pull & pull & pull....then...*BOOM*, it jumps 3 feet!!

I will also put up thumbnails and links and try to make it really nice...but I may be out of town a lot in March and April.so I will 'try' to get a bare-bones something up there in the next week or so...

Hi Bill, how's it going, give us an update! All those pictures of mudcatters have disappeared. How will we cope without a visual Joe Offer? (I was just about to send you my piccy too)
Jo

Bill,

Jost a brief word of encouragement, I reckon that AOLPress takes less than an hour to pick up.

Regards
John

right, John...mp3 seems to be Win95 only..and I will be getting it as soon as I can get some more memory & disk space..may need to upgrade BIOS..may not...(I still have 1 5¬ inch floppy drive!..can replace it with maybe a 2gig HD)

and...I DO have AOLPress..and another one too, called WebFord which is also free and highly recommended...I have just not done the learning curve..but I guess the crash was a message from above telling me to get off my butt and learn it! (I even have stuff ready to start my own web page on woodturning..have just been lazy...)

thanks for the input..I'll see what I can do..

Bill,

I have just started using Freeware from AOL that is Win 3.1 that makes HTML and page construction very easy. As a first timer I would recommend it. It's called AOLPress, has been around a couple of years and I found it at ZDNet Software Library.

A small confession though Bill, in the last few nights I have loaded Win 95 - only to give the kids access to a multi-media encyclopaedia. I must admit I am keen to try the MP3 encoding to transfer tunes. I couldn't find any Win 3.1 software for that.

Regards
John

most of my message disappeared!!...one more try..!

I just got a message (at bottom)from Fortune City.com, where I have been posting various pictures of Mudcatters...it seems they had a disk failure:
...what this means is that I will have to re-do things...the good news is that maybe I will learn to do it right..(I still have all the pics on my hard drive and, I think, any comments you sent me in email..)I may or may not put it on Fortune City again...I will look to see if there are better choices...I'll be glad to take suggestions..or even farm this out to someone who is ahead of me in HTML & page construction:

"We would like to offer our apologies for the problems you may have been experiencing trying to access the files that you had hosted on FortuneCity. On Sunday night there was a disk failure on a storage device containing your homepage files, followed by a second failure that occurred on the back-up disk.

At this point your data became inaccessible on both the original storage disk and the back-up. A specialized data recovery team then attempted unsuccessfully to retrieve the corrupted data.

The hardware manufacturers stated that the mean time between failures is 1,000,000 hours (over 100 years), meaning the probability of two disks failing within 3 hours of each other is almost impossible. We have already enhanced our normal secure back-up procedures to ensure the improbability of such an incident occurring again.

You are a valued citizen of FortuneCity and we therefore want to help you rebuild your home. In lieu of the service disruption, we want to offer a special set of benefits for your continued active participation in our community. Please note these benefits are not available to the community as a whole but only to the minority whose files have been affected.

Any pages you create and have hosted on FortuneCity will NOT have any banner placed on them for three months.

The disk failure has not altered your status as a citizen of FortuneCity - your USERNAME and PASSWORD will still work as usual and you will still be able to upload files, access the Homebuilder, File Manager, FTP, Discussion Boards and all the other utilities available on our site.

If you have kept a back-up copy of your site you will be able to re-upload your files using either the file manager

Once again, we would like to thank you for your patience and understanding apologize for any inconvenience caused.
