Subject: RE: Obit: 'Auntie' Nancy de Vries AUS From: Bob Bolton Date: 23 Jul 06 - 02:01 AM G'day kat, The term The Stolen Generation has worked well in graphically stating the criminal treatment of Native Australian families by successive governments and their agencies. My only quibble is that it covers a very long generation! In the past decade, or so, the Oral History Department of the National Library of Australia has put in a lot time recording the memories and histories of this group ... and a major researcher was my friend Rob Willis - a country-town businessman become folklorist / collector / mediator. There is a lot of web-accessible material available via a simple search at www.nla.gov.au ... for "stolen generation". Regards, Bob |

Subject: RE: Obit: 'Auntie' Nancy de Vries AUS From: katlaughing Date: 22 Jul 06 - 12:02 PM Thank you, very much, Giok. What an honour it would have been to have met and heard her. "The Stolen Generation" is not a term I've heard before. I've seen docu's on the same actions in Canada and the US, but I don't think they've defined it with such a succinct and telling title. kat |
