Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: GUEST,BILL FROM TULSA Date: 23 Aug 06 - 09:37 PM If you are still looking for an inexpensive dulcimer with decent sound, let me tell you of one I have. I own about 20. In the process of purchasing them, I purchased one I thought would just be a novelty, but it amazed me that it had such good sound. Not like a McSpadden, or course, but something you could make music on. It was on ebay, and listed as a TN Music Box. It is from "Off the Beaten Path", and "American Dulcimers". It is rectangular, and is made of real wood. It doesn't compare with the best dulcimers in workmanship, but for the price, I thought it was a good 'student dulcimer'. They list for about $120 on their site, but there is one on ebay today for $59.99, (a buy it now price) plus shipping. There is a picture, and some good information on the ebay site. If you have trouble locating it, just do a search for "TN Music Box". For the purpose you have stated, it might be something you can use. |

Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: Scoville Date: 13 Aug 06 - 03:54 PM I have this image of the old Far Side cartoon: "Welcome to Heaven, here's your harp." "Welcome to Hell, here's your accordion." only maybe, "Welcome to musician-Hell, here's your Wal-Mart dulcimer." The Wal-Marts here carry guitars, dulcimers, lap zithers, and sometimes fiddle, mandolin, and banjo (I keep meaning to take a picture of myself in front of the Wal-Mart banjo display. I find that oddly hilarious). I could start the Crap Instrument String Band. |

Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: Kaleea Date: 13 Aug 06 - 03:20 PM No matter how hard up one is for a Mtn. Dulcimer, please NEVER purchase one from Walmart! The alleged abominations they pretend are Musical instruments are fit only for filling town dumps, or perhaps for imprisoned wallyworld ceo's as part of their punishment. |

Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: katlaughing Date: 12 Aug 06 - 07:38 PM Take a look at this one, Sorcha: Clickety. Might not be any good, but it wouldn't hurt to ask for a sound sample, etc. And, here is another one starting out low in price; it's a gamble, but ya never know, ya know? clickety, again And, there is a more expensive, mahagony one HERE. Hope this helps! |

Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: Sorcha Date: 07 Aug 06 - 05:30 PM Price point is because he makes less than $5.15/hr...is 'handicapped', has starter one, from Homeless in the auction, and I want to 'gift' him with most of the price...I shall ask him to pay, say, $25 for it to be HIS. |
|
Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: GUEST,Russ Date: 07 Aug 06 - 05:26 PM Sorry, Because of your desired price point, I assumed you were looking for a starter dulcimer. |
|
Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: Sorcha Date: 07 Aug 06 - 05:09 PM He HAS a starter, and a 'friend' is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm on the eBay thing...almost (yea, right) got him a McSpadden for $100....just keep looking. |
|
Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: GUEST,Russ Date: 07 Aug 06 - 05:04 PM Sorcha, I just googled "cardboard dulcimer" and picked the first url I recognized. I've played cardboard dulcimers. Some have enough tone to be a valid starter dulcimer. Some don't. For $100, your not going to get much more dulcimer unless you buy from a friend or someone who is desperate. You could also check ebay, but I have no ebay experience. |

Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: Sorcha Date: 07 Aug 06 - 04:55 PM Any tone at all I wonder? And I thought Andy no longer did mail order???? Or was that just records and stuff? |

Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: Sorcha Date: 07 Aug 06 - 09:59 AM Bear in mind this is a gift.....so I can't pay much. Just want the 'kid' to get some music in him!! (well, or out of him as the case may be...) |
|
Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: Sorcha Date: 07 Aug 06 - 09:19 AM It's not for me.....for develp. disabled friend. I don't have time to mess with a kit, and he hasn't the ability. |
|
Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 06 Aug 06 - 11:43 PM For $122.50 you can get a kit to make a Black Mountain dulcimer. I made one of these and played it for years. It was not hard to make. The advantage of the kit is you know the instrument has never been abused - left in garage for a couple of years, let us say. |
|
Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: katlaughing Date: 06 Aug 06 - 11:38 PM I've been really pleased, as a beginner, with my Spaw-recommended Black Mtn 56 from Elderly. |

Subject: RE: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: gnu Date: 06 Aug 06 - 07:23 PM I'll keep an eye open and ask around. |

Subject: Want to buy--App Dulcimer From: Sorcha Date: 06 Aug 06 - 04:48 PM I'm looking for a decent, PLAYABLE lap/App. dulcimer in the US or possibly Canada. I am not particular about the brand and can't afford a McSpadden unless you are feeling very generous. Cripple Creek, Blue Lion, Black Diamond all acceptable. I'll pay up to $100 US for the right one. I'll pay shipping too. |
