According to Bernard’s CD, which I have in front of me, the song was co-written. Exactly which of the two had the greater hand I’ve no idea and doesn’t really matter insofar as apportioning royalties is concerned.

Just to put the record straight. Everyone seems to assume that Bernard wrote this song. Sorry but he didn't, it was penned by a true comedy genius Steve Morris from Chorley in Lancs.

I gave this a quick run through for the first verse and it seems to work OK:

According to the sleeve notes, it was co-written with Steve Morris. Thanks for the transcript Colin, I've cleaned things up and corrected the odd mistake - its important to get the fifth verse right!

I also wanted the lyrics and have had no luck finding them so i found a recording and have transposed them as near as I can excuse the spelling

No, it's one 'g' - Wrigley - as pointed out by Jim Dixon above.

Going back to the original point - I don't know the song in question. Maybe it has a different title, or 'appen Loofyman hasn't recorded it yet.

(Thackray - well, you did ask!)

Seconded - Bernard's an accomplished guitarist - for those interested he has a whole album of instrumental guitar tracks that came out in 1988 and was remastered with extra tracks on CD more recently (see his website for details, link given above).

I just thought I'd mention the Jake Thackerey (spelling?) song that Bernard did in THAT set you mentioned. It showed what a sparkling guitarist that Bernard is , in spite of some people might get the impression that he is just a 3 Chord funny man. No sir , a bloody good guitarist an'all.

Here's Bernard Wrigley's web site. (Note the spelling of his name.)

The web site advertises his "new" album "God's Own Country," which came out in 2005, but I don't see any song title there that resembles the one requested.

The closest I can find there is SILLY OLD BUGGER, which appears on his album "Wanted: Live!" (1991).

I heard him do it at Fylde Festival last year, excellent song and I believe he said it was on his forthcoming album that he was in the process of recording, so I would imagine it should be out now!
