Subject: Origins: Lakeman's Inspiration From: GUEST,Dartmoor Eagle Date: 18 Sep 06 - 05:19 PM I've just been listening to Seth Lakeman's hugely entertaining and brilliantly performed Kitty Jay album. It's great, but I was interested to note the level of inspiration he seems to have received from the Devon poet Graham Searle. About a decade ago he wrote a poem called ( I think) Blood on Copper which surely was the template for Seth's song of that name. It has the same sentiment, same structure, and indeed many of the same turns of phrase. Do we know of any other of Seths mentors? |
