Yes it's true what Ebbie said - once your eyes have 'shifted', you can let them wander, blink etc. It doesn't seem strained at all. Now I must try it with words and numbers! The car is still the best so far tho.

I have the software to make the 2d 3D magic.
I've made Bush quotes using Scooby Doo pics and Army slogans using bones.
My website was getting popular with US troops in Afghanistan.

Pretty scene, Helen. My own favorites tend to be of animals or bowls and things of that sort. But those orchids are nice.

I find that if I put my face right up close to the picture, and look at two repeated pieces/parts of the pattern so that they resolve to one piece then slowly move the picture back away from my eyes while keeping my eyes focused at the same level, then I can see the 3-D pictures. If I manage to start on a part of the picture which ends up being a flat plane, like looking at a wall straight in front of you, then I can see the 3-D fairly quickly. If it turns out to be sloping back or a more complicated depth then I lose it, but I just try different parts of the picture until I get it.

If someone video-ed me doing it with computer pictures it'd look pretty funny. If I am up late and looking at them, while hubby is sleeping in the next room, my chair creaks as I get up, focus, move back and sit down to look at the 3-D so I have to do it ultra-carefully and quietly and often lose the picture before I sit down.

My very favourite stereogram at the moment is Orchid Forest - Stereograms by Gene Levine

I copied it and put it into a jigsaw program I have on the computer. It makes an amazing jigsaw to do, because of the repetitive elements, and then it is fun to look at when it is finished.

If you have lots of time to kill, investigate his whole website. There are some beauties there, and all different types of 3-D pictures. Way past the simple patterns.

It is strange though- once you have your eyes 'shifted', you can let them roam and examine everything in the picture. You can blink, you can even look away and it will still be there when you return them.

Just a thought - make sure you look at the pictures with your eyes level, it won't work if you have your head tilted to one side.

Hey, this is fun! I'm gonna bookmark this site too. The car I did first came out best. Some pictures seem to come out better than others.

Like all 'magic eye' pictures it is dependent on the viewer to see it. It requires a certain out of focusing ability, and some folks claim they never see them.

For those who do, there is no question about when the picture 'shows up'- it is a 3-dimensional effect.

That said, this particular picture is a little harder to see than most. Maybe because it is so flowery.

I drew a woman's face and hair and cedar chest beside it. I found them, no problem, but they are not as distinct as the books and calendars that I have seen.

Draw a picture on the screen (slightly easier then an etch-a-sketch).
Click 'Done'.
Wait a minute or so, and your magic-eye picture will appear.
