Subject: RE: Chord Req: Teach Me To Drive / Sayonara Nakamura From: rich-joy Date: 01 Nov 06 - 07:58 PM No, I'm not the delightful Joybell!! (I'm in Quoinsland!) Glad you can use that "S.N." chord list somehow - as I found them in a Bushwacker's book, I wasn't sure if they had ever recorded or sung the song and didn't know how it might sound (I don't play an instrument or read music). I'm only used to Ted singing it - and "Prickly Heat" a now defunct NT band ... GREAT song ... Cheers! R-J |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Teach Me To Drive / Sayonara Nakamura From: Muttley Date: 01 Nov 06 - 07:07 AM Thanks R-J I've managed to re-chord to D / A7 / G / A as opposed to the E / B7 / A / B chords you posted as the chords I use are easier on my reduced fine-motor skills - have a LOT of trouble hitting B's cleanly and don't even ask about B7's! (I use an 'abbreviated' / 'cheat' version of that one!!) and have slowed the chord changes down to the speed at which I can play to suit my voice and abilities - once I have the list of chords to use and I can (roughly) place them above the lyrics - I can then play and change until the two gradually "mesh" (sorta !!!) BTW - You're not Joybell are you (name change ???) JohnW (Muttley) |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Teach Me To Drive / Sayonara Nakamura From: rich-joy Date: 31 Oct 06 - 04:27 AM I should have at least put the words of the verse and chorus below the chords - sorry again - bit busy just right now ... will try later on ... Cheers! R-J |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Teach Me To Drive / Sayonara Nakamura From: rich-joy Date: 31 Oct 06 - 04:23 AM Hi Muttley, this has been niggling away at me and then, after some book-searching today, I finally found the score in "The 2nd Bushwackers Aust'n Songbook" from 1983!! Now this is not my forte :~) - but until someone who knows about these things can fix it up, the chords given are : verse : E B7 E E B7 E E B7 E chorus : E A E A E E B7 E B E A E E B7 E The actual notes however, all move about considerably, in my memory of the song!!! (so sorry, I'm not sure how much "use" the above will be!) Cheers! R-J |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Teach Me To Drive / Sayonara Nakamura From: Bob Bolton Date: 29 Oct 06 - 10:01 PM G'day Muttley, I haven't heard anything back from Ted Egan ... guess he has to do it hard and keep playing Administrator / (~ Governor) to the end of his term (end of year ...?). I have a number of recordings of Sayonara Nakamura ... but no written copies. Even if I worked out the tune - there's no certainty that my idea of the chording would match. I'll keep an eye out - but cannot promise anything. (And ... my home ASDL connection fell over yesterday ... and I haven't yet worked out whether it is a failure of the modem - or something wrong in the Telstra line in. This will limit my abilty to pursue anything out on the web!) Regards, Bob |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Teach Me To Drive / Sayonara Nakamura From: Muttley Date: 28 Oct 06 - 03:58 AM Thanks Guys I shall await your efforts with baited breath. I'd LOVE to be able to listen to a song and pick the chords from it as you both intend to do - but that ability seems to have 'gone with the ABI' along with the ability to play without having the damn lyrics and chords in front of me all the time. BUGGER!!! Mutt |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Teach Me To Drive / Sayonara Nakamura From: Peace Date: 27 Oct 06 - 11:20 PM "Teach Me to Drive, Dad" If someone can download the song there and get it as an mp3, I will do the chords for it--if someone also has the lyrics. (The computer I'm on will not allow me to do this stuff or I'd just do it.) Thanks to anyone who can help. |

Subject: Lyr Add: SAYONARA NAKAMURA (Ted Egan) From: Peace Date: 27 Oct 06 - 10:29 PM OK. Maybe some good news. Music\DanceMUSIC. Many songs have been produced related to the pearling industry, of which each relay the intriguing sagas of daily life. SAYONARA NAKAMURA by Ted Egan ... library.thinkquest.org/10236/mus.htm There is a RealPlayer rendition of the song there, but I can never get RealPlayer to play on the computer I use. Perhaps someone could give it a try and put the chords in for Muttley. When the luggers all sailed away From Roebuck Bay on that fateful day The diver on the B 19 was Nakamura Not yet twenty-one From the Land of the Rising Sun His homeland was the island Okinawa. In the deepest holes of the Lacepede Shoals To fulfill the pearling master's goals Went the diver from the B 19, Nakamura His quest for the lustrous pearl As strong as his love for the beautiful girl He'd wed when he returned to Okinawa. Chorus: But it's goodbye now, farewell Say goodbye to Okinawa For today we'll bury you In West Australia You will never be as one With the Land of the Rising Sun Sayonara. Sayonara Nakamura. If not, and you can make an mp3 of the song, I will give it a listen on Monday and put the chords in. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Teach Me To Drive / Sayonara Nakamura From: Bob Bolton Date: 27 Oct 06 - 09:45 PM G'day Muttley, I hoped I might have the chords in a Ted Egan book ... but I can't find one with Sayonara Nakamura ... and Ted doesn't have to worry about chords on his "Fosterphone"! I've emailed Ted, in case he can divert his attentions from matters of State (well ... Territory!) as he is still in his term as Adminstrator of Australia's Northern Territory (~ "Governor") and he may be able to direct me to a site with the words, music ... and chords. Regards, Bob |

Subject: Chord Req: Teach Me To Drive / Sayonara Nakamura From: Muttley Date: 27 Oct 06 - 08:54 PM Hi Folks I have asked for these before and am hoping in the months since I last asked that someone has arrived who might know them. I am really desperate to get the chords for these two songs - the first by John Williamson and the second by Ted Egan. As I have explained before - due to brain injury from an accident, I can no longer remember which chords go with a 'signature'so posting that a song is played in "the key of (whatever)" is no assistance, unfortunately. I would appreciate it if the song could be posted with the relevant chords inserted in brackets where the change occurs in the song - If pressed for time, just one verse + chorus + chords will suffice. Thanks to all in hope Muttley |
