Subject: RE: BS: Anyone for nautical frostbite? From: Rowan Date: 17 Nov 06 - 05:31 PM Yes, Schantieman, it is summer in Bass Strait, but a very large High (pressure system) brought Antarctic air clear up to the Queensland border. It snowed in Melbourne, the Snowy Mountains (of course), on the bushfires currently raging in the Blue Mountains, the New England (our version) and at Wallangarra, a township 50 metres north of the Queensland border. There were gale force winds from the New England to north of Brisbane, where rooves were ripped off several houses and power blackouts over a wide area. Not our usual start to summer. But I hope you get to have a good time sailing. Cheers, Rowan |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone for nautical frostbite? From: Schantieman Date: 17 Nov 06 - 11:05 AM Well, no luck so far then. I think I can confidently predict that we shall not be going very far if the weather's rough. No broken boats - it harms my bank balance, and credibility with the charterer. Isn't it summer in the Bass Strait? Or is that the pub in Burton-on-Trent - gets Bass strait from the brewery Steve |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone for nautical frostbite? From: number 6 Date: 17 Nov 06 - 09:03 AM There's something very invigorating about sailing at this time of year. Wish I had more opportunities to do so. biLL |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone for nautical frostbite? From: Barry Finn Date: 17 Nov 06 - 01:17 AM Did a Boston to Bahama run years ago the week after Thanksgiving years ago. It was supposed to be a paid 5 day trip. What a royal scew up. I took my pay for the 7 days it took to make it as far as Alantic City, New Jersey where we had to put into for repairs due to the lovely North Alantic weather. No Thanks, I'd rather do Cape Horn in mid July. Barry |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone for nautical frostbite? From: Rowan Date: 16 Nov 06 - 09:28 PM In the last day or so I could have got it without leaving Bass Strait, even further away. Cheers, Rowan |

Subject: BS: Anyone for nautical frostbite? From: Schantieman Date: 16 Nov 06 - 10:54 AM I'm thinking of a few days' yacht sailing on the south coast (of England) immediately after Christmas. Anyone fancy getting away from it all? No experience needed, but welcome. Share cost. Steve |
