I think fat B****rd means that in the book Havers is much less attractive than the Havers in the TV production. She's pretty cute on TV, really, they seem to think that a bulky unfashionable coat will cover that up. In the TV show I keep being surprised that Lynley doesn't go for her. In the book, it's seems more natural that he doesn't.

Unfortunately, I missed the Prime Suspect this past weekend due to one of those "it's due tomorrow, Mom" big projects. My TV reception is weak enought that if I tried to tape it, the signal from the VCR would mess up the TV signal. Sigh.

Morse is still on here in re runs and I do like it very much. However, the Lewis show was not so good. Pergaps because we are just waiting for that red jag to come round the corner.

I enjoyed the first episode and the last but couldn't sit through others. I do miss Inspector Morse. That series was brilliant.

fatB - I have read all of the Lynley books; they are excellent. In fact, I have listed Elizabeth George as one of my favourite authors on my page at NaNoWriMo. (37,511 words and counting!)

We British do good gritty, y'know YES!!!!

I hope they do more of Lewis. Not familiar with Foyle's War.

I'll have to see if netflix has any of them available.

Thanks!

Hey--I LIKE Havers. At least British actresses are allowed to look like real people. All the girls in the U.S. crime shows look like Bond girls. It's lame.

I don't like Lynley himself but I like the series. Mom likes "Foyle's War" (I haven't watched it much), we both like "Prime Suspect" and we both liked "Inspector Morse". They only come around once in awhile in the U.S., though.

I hated that one with the detective who was losing his eyesight. What a silly ploy, and he was over-dramatized like most of the detectives on American shows.

A friend lent me the dvd of the first episode about 2 weeks ago. I look forward to seeing the rest . Very well done and acted. I'm still partial to Foyle's War, though.

I thought the Lewis was dreadful really. Lynnly is too twee by half but I think the Prime Suspect series is excellent. Also enjoy Foyles War, what I have seen of it.Mack, don't be such a bloody snot...tv won't kill yer.

Hello, Kat. I believe the Lewis film was a one-off. But you never know.
The Inspector Lynley books by Elizabeth George are pretty good but his sidekick Havers is not that attractive.
Catch up on the Prime Suspect if you can. They're mostly excellent.
We British do good gritty, y'know.

Except for the first season, we've only seen it by hit or miss on PBS, here, but did manage to see the last two episodes of "Final Act." It was superb, esp. Helen Mirren, and it was sad to think that really was the last episode. I still prefer the Inspector Lynley series, though and, would also like to see more of the new Inspector Lewis.:->

Heck, mack/misophist, it must be good to be that perfect.
I don't like soap operas but I don't think it makes me a better person.
I've seen all the Prime Suspect episodes and think they're all pretty good. But the first was still the best IMHO.
PS There are quite a lot of elitists on the 'cat who seem to think that not knowing about certain aspects of modern life eg football, cricket makes them better people. IT DOESN'T.
Yours just for once being ratty. fB.

No opinion at all; never saw it, never heard of it, not going to look for it. Sounds like a tv show.

I watched Prime Suspect 11 last night. I thought it was very good but there was something about it that seemed off putting. It lacked the edge the others had, or perhaps it was knowing it was the end of a first rate programme. The ensemble acting that gave the previous shows such character did not seem to be there. Helen Mirren, as usual was outstanding. Loved her in The Queen as well. Any of you have any thoughts on this. I think it was one of the best written and best acted series of all time, do you think so as well ?
