I fixed it! I created an MP3 of WIND'S WILL small enough to fit on my Myspace Profile.

This is the song about my friend Billy Dunlop and his attempt to to circumnavigate the world in his 9' foot boat called Wind's Will.

You can download and save the MP3. It's got some great accordion work from Tom Leighton in the second part of the song.

You might have to click the WIND'S WILL title to get the MP3 to play.

Celtaddict - Thanks for the info ... I'm not free that week, but inexpensive!

;-)

I'd like to get someone's ear there and be considered for '07 or '08. It a festival I've always wanted to play. The Charles W Morgan features prominently in one of my songs, and the ship is actually there at Mystic!

I do get up to New England a time or two each year, and could be ther for the date. I'd have to consider it carefully in '07 though, since I'm there in Aug and on the wets coast at the end of June. The dates don't exactly line up all that well ...

Jed, I am nothing 'official' whatsoever (and some of the 'real' Mystic people turn up on the 'Cat from time to time) but I have known many of them for years. Mystic receives many many suggestions, nominations, and requests to appear for each Festival. It is pretty rare for someone to wind up on the program based only on their own application, or nomination by a 'fan.' If staff of the music department have heard someone, they are likely to be considered more strongly. Regional folks of course repeat, not only because the folks here know and like them but also the budget is limited. Many others just turn up, sometimes several times, and participate, and eventually wind up on the program as well; likely the combination formal and informal approach is helpful. (Many musicians also turn up regularly whether they are on the bill or not.) They are always looking for a balance of the well known, the lesser known, and the esoteric or arcane; each year has both old favorites and new surprises. Any chance you are free and in the northeast the second weekend of June?

In fact - I have a few of those songs up on Myspace along with a few comments about the songs and lyrics posted under the "lyrics" button for each song.

I'd like to have posted my song about my friend Billy Dunlop who sailed the Atlantic in his 9' sailboat called the Wind's Will - but the MP3 is too big for Myspace. There's a small sample of it here but you don't get the whole second half of the song - with Tom Leighton's great accordian work. Billy got lost back 1983 trying to sail around the world. He's still out there somewhere ...

The Myspace songs are about:
The CSS Shenandoah
The Charles W Morgan and a runaway slave
The voyage of a prison ship to Australia
A Patrick O'Brien novel and The Leopard's run to Australia

They should have me in the line up. I have a bunch of songs that audience would enjoy ... besides, they need the token Irishman on the roster, don't they?

I'll certainly look forward to hearing Jon Bartlett & Rika Ruebsaat from Vancouver, British Columbia, again. They were here this year as presenters at the symposium but were also very active in the late night shanty shouts, and were even invited to lead a song or two from the stage at the final concert. They are members of the Vancouver Folk Song Society Shanty Crew and their recent CD BLOW THE MAN DOWN is one of my favorites, and the notes for the songs are very well done.

Barry-

If you really want to be sure that the Joe Clones combine this thread and the previous one, you should copy the thread name to your clipboard and use the "Click Links" menue to "Contact Us." I'm obviously too lazy to do this chore myself.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

The bunks on the Conrad haven't been fully used since they cut back on the volunteers, think they'd ever lease out the cot's to those that want to stay close by & can't afford better? A question of liability?

The Festival has started on Thursday for many years, with the
'members preview' concert at Lighthouse point. Not as huge
as the Friday or Saturday events, but often well-attended.

Rooms in Mystic are a lot cheaper on Thursday nights than on
Friday and Saturday, FWIW.

Geno and Moe are not to be missed. Geno lives on the Long Beach Peninsula and Moe is from the general area. They both perform at the Fisher Poets coming up in Astoria in February, also not to be missed. mg

It seems that this years coming festival will be held from the 7th to 10th of June of 2007. That's a Thrusday start. I'm not an insider so I guess it's OK ;eak what I do know.
"Fisher Poets" (for the first time that I know of) Geno Leech, a commerical fisherman from I believe the Pacific Northwest & Moe Bowstern fisherwoman who fishes out of Alaska will be part of the line up along with some regular favorites Lou Killen, Jerry Bryant, Ellan Cohn, Clifff Haslam, Lee Murdock, Jon Bartlett & Rika Ruebsaat (fantastic symposium presenters from last year), Bob Webb, Jeff Warner & he Chantey Staff. Master Portuguese Fado singer Ana Vinagre will also be there. It seems that they'll be adding instrument workshops this year too. They're still contacting proformers so this is not a complete list. I guess we'll be waiting with "baited breath" to hear who & what else will be add to this exciting line up. I know that with this early heads up people will be blotting their calanders for the weekend, mine is. I'd like to thank the Seaport for their new early warning program & for the new infusion, it looks to be one of the best festivals in years.
Stay tuned

Barry
