Subject: Review: September 11 At the Ligonier Games From: LadyJean Date: 15 Sep 04 - 12:55 AM Though I should have been packing. (I've bought a house, and I'm moving at the end of the month.) I went to the Ligonier Highland games last Saturday. I've been going for longer than I care to admit. Somerset where the last of the hijacked planes crashed, is just up the road from Ligonier, so, of course, there was a memorial at the closing ceremonies. We had a moment of silence, then someone played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. One man stood up, the friend I was with said "He has a point" so we stood, and so did everyone else. Of course the proper song to play at such an occasion would have been "Flowers of the Forrest". And I couldn't help thinking it would have been much more appropriate. "The pride of our youth lay cold in the clay." Perhaps that's why they played "Amazing Grace". |
