My son wants to work in Amsterdam for a few months, what does he need to do to obtain work there i.e. National insurance number? Work permit? any help would be gratefully received, he as a couple of casual jobs in the offing, bar work and the like.

He'll be OK as he is.

make sure he's got his European medivcal card or it could cost if he gets ill.

Depending on the country of origin, there are some limitations.

information here (in Dutchh tough).

Burgerservice/Sofi-number will be required too. Unless he plans on going into the grey/black economy ofcourse.

Have a look at this. It's in English and provides everything you need to know. Especially in the areas of Taxation, Social Security, Medical Care and Work In Holland. I am making an assumption that your son is from Europe.

Good Luck
Does he speak "Dutch?"
Let us start with the word "Nederland"

Sorry to bust through your son's smoke clouds....but ... today ... only NL nationals can purchase "the good stuff" in Amsterdam's "coffee houses." The shut down of Needle Park was the beginning eight years ago ... the local citizens are sick of being the "white widow capitol of the world."

Encourage him stay at home ...

He does try a bit of dope, nothing stronger, he's quite anti, doesn't drink often or a lot, he'll no doubt visit the maritime museum and Anne Franks house
