As an academic friend remarked on Facebook today: "If you ignore the bigotry, hate-mongering, homophobia, and flirtations with fascism, why, she was a lovely woman." |

From there she spun off into human topics and was not a very nice human being herself. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Brigitte Bardot (1934-2025) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Jan 26 - 08:37 PM Le Monde obit in English. 'From sex appeal to the far right': Brigitte Bardot's death in the international press International media outlets paid tribute to Bardot, who died on Sunday, celebrating her film career and her social influence from the 1950s onward, yet also calling out her political choices, which later drifted toward the far right. You can only read a bit of it since it is a subscriber journal. The Guardian Brigitte Bardot obituary Film star who shot to fame in And God Created Woman in the 1950s and later became a campaigner against animal cruelty A snippet from that one: On rainy afternoons in these places, over many years, she wrote her memoirs. Initiales BB (1996) became a million-seller, as did its sequel, Pluto’s Square (1999); in them she was frank about the many discarded lovers, the abortions and the despair, but she was also an incorrigible social conservative about race, homosexuality and immigration. In 1992 she had married Bernard d’Ormale, adviser to the National Front leader Jean-Marie Le Pen. As usual, it was romantic love at first sight; they wed impromptu in a remote Norwegian church. Their shared views lent durability to the union, and Bardot later endorsed Marine Le Pen’s runs for the presidency. |
