Subject: Seasons of Peace From: GUEST,arlen10@juno.com Date: 15 Mar 01 - 10:34 AM I am looking for the lyrics of the song, "Seasons of Peace" by Bob Beers. Can you send them to me? Thanks |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seasons of Peace From: Hollowfox Date: 15 Mar 01 - 10:51 AM I'd be surprised if it happens, but if nobody posts them beforehand, I'll post them on Saturday morning. |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE SEASONS OF PEACE (Robert Beers) From: Joe Offer Date: 16 Mar 01 - 02:39 AM It was kind of hidden in another thread, and the lyrics don't seem quite complete to me. Can anybody supply corrections? -Joe Offer- The Seasons of Peace by Robert H. Beers Peace is the child of spring, Summer's the father of all, Snow is the blanket of hope, Soft is the coming of love, False are the bickering reigns Cold are the patriot winds |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seasons of Peace From: Bill D Date: 16 Mar 01 - 11:41 AM I think that's correct...I will listen to the LP again later tonight, but that's essentially it. Joe has asked for a midi or ABC or NWC file of the tune...hmmmmm...have never done one from scratch, but maybe.... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seasons of Peace From: GUEST,AnneK Date: 25 Jul 10 - 01:30 PM I wrote the words down when I learned them at the Fox Hollow Festival, ca. 1970. I have only two differences (other than "a" instead of "the" and suchlike: "Of honor, of homeland, of strife" (instead of war), and "rains" instead of "reigns" (fits with the nature image). Thanks for the posting - I never wrote down who wrote it! And now, many years later, got curious. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seasons of Peace From: GUEST,Aaron F Date: 27 Jul 10 - 01:48 AM I can echo Anne K's comments - my parents recorded this song after performing it with Bob at the White Hose for Nixon a few years before I was born. This song has been kept alive in my repertoire - a powerful reminder to what was, and how 'what was' is still oh so relevant today. But I digress - Anne K - Your lyric edits are right on the money. I have two recordings, one (raspy bad) recording on 8-track by Bob, and one LP by my folks have "Strife" and "a" and the "rain" I always felt fit better with the nature image, although only Bob's scribblings could truly echo the reality - it fits better for me. Gorgeous powerful and relatively unknown song by a man ahead of his time. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seasons of Peace (Bob Beers) From: GUEST,Guest Date: 17 Nov 20 - 02:51 PM From a friend who learned this at Fox Hollow ~1970 "Fall is the rustle of leaves" should be "Fall and the russet of leaves", to which "colors" in the next line then relate(s) back to. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seasons of Peace (Bob Beers) From: Bill D Date: 17 Nov 20 - 04:51 PM I can see it either way. I will go listen to my LP again to try to hear how Bob intended it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seasons of Peace (Bob Beers) From: rich-joy Date: 17 Nov 20 - 05:17 PM Here is a clip of the song, as sung by Lill Appel, at the Brooklyn Public Library in 1986. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buJwlUnthqs I haven't yet come across a recording of The Beers Family version.
