Subject: Quodlibets ('partner songs') From: Margret RoadKnight Date: 05 Aug 03 - 08:01 AM Interested in Quodlibets ("partner songs", such as Blue Moon and Heart & Soul and Do You Wanna Dance, which can be sung simultaneously) with sufficiently distinct tunes to make an interesting 'tapestry'. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Margret |

Subject: RE: Quodlibets ('partner songs') From: GUEST,Pete Peterson Date: 05 Aug 03 - 10:16 AM Ones I haven's seen mentioned before (checked the other threads) Bill Bailey Just Because Meeting in the Air (Carter Family) Washington & Lee Swing we (Well Tempered String Band) use this as a demonstration at workshops-- the Carter Family never (well, hardly ever) used any chords but the I, IV and V even when the music clearly called for it-- thus Meeting in the Air used only those three chords even though other songs use the VI, II, V, I progression. . . and you can sing them together, as we dmonstrate. |

Subject: RE: Quodlibets ('partner songs') From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 06 Aug 03 - 07:23 AM Good site, Masato! Arigato as usual! Sol Weber has some good quodlibets in Rounds Galore and Rounds Galore and More (click). My favorite, though, is What a goodly thing (Jean Ritchie's Peace Round) Shalom Chaverim Wade in the water Hey yanna ho yanna hey yan yan (NA Indian chant) |
Subject: RE: Quodlibets ('partner songs') From: Vixen Date: 06 Aug 03 - 08:36 AM Well, without knowing they were actually related songs, I superimposed Rambler Gambler (the Joan Baez version as sung by me) onto Pretty Mary (the Peter, Paul and Mary version as sung by Reynaud). I found out years later that both songs are variants of Wagoner's Lad, so of course they go together. Combining other pairs of variants might yield equally interesting results. V |

Subject: RE: Quodlibets ('partner songs') From: PageOfCups Date: 06 Aug 03 - 06:34 PM Now, if you'd like some funny/bawdy ones, check out the ones "written" by P.D.Q. Bach (aka Peter Schickele). "Art of the Ground Round for 3 baritones & discontinuo, S. $1. 19/lb" can be found on the album "The Intimate PDQ Bach." PoC |
Subject: RE: Quodlibets ('partner songs') From: CraigS Date: 07 Aug 03 - 07:04 PM If you listen to BBC radio 4 at 5.30am (BST, 4.30am GMT) start-up, you can hear their theme tune, which weaves together a large number of old and traditional UK melodies in a quite amazing manner. Web radio can be useful! |
