Subject: RE: India vs. Pakistan: A Good Day From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 14 Mar 04 - 09:03 PM Here's a newspaper account, and the headline says it all - India and Pakistan pass test - Peace breaks out between nuclear neighbours after record-breaking cricket match Really heartening stuff - for example: 'In the raucous heart of the crowd sat Saif Malik, a 16-year-old Pakistani, wearing an Indian cricket shirt. During previous Indo-Pakistani cricket series, people have been lynched for less. 'I'm supporting India because I want to be a little different and because Sachin Tendulkar is my hero,' said Saif, speaking of India's star batsman. Maybe it's a pity they don't have cricket in a few more troublespots. |

Subject: RE: India vs. Pakistan: A Good Day From: Blackcatter Date: 14 Mar 04 - 09:11 PM You would think that with both countries watching the same cricket match that they would be lulled into a stupor that would make them forget why they have so much angst. |

Subject: RE: India vs. Pakistan: A Good Day From: Bobert Date: 14 Mar 04 - 09:24 PM Something about two countries which both have the capabilities to blow the other one up that makes for long lasting friendships. It about time that these two have figgured it out. My Wes Ginny Slide Rule had this one pegged years ago... Maybe since the US and Russia are trying to "cut down" on their nuclear stockpiles Jones's, they might thingabout just givin' anuke to every country and let them figgure out waht India and Pakistan have figgured out: Not gettin' nuked makes fir a purdy good day... Subject: RE: India vs. Pakistan: A Good Day From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 15 Mar 04 - 07:12 AM I'd have thought cricket would be just the kind of sport Russians would like. Waiting around while nothing happens, and then it all happens at once. Complicated rules that outsiders can't understand. Serious danger of nasty injuries. I seem to remember somewhere that Tsar Nicholas II was quite keen on cricket. |

Subject: RE: India vs. Pakistan: A Good Day From: Peter T. Date: 15 Mar 04 - 10:09 AM I seem to remember a picture of the last Tsar's family playing tennis. Stalin's main sport was robbing banks.... yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: India vs. Pakistan: A Good Day From: GUEST Date: 02 Jun 04 - 06:08 AM The author Geoffrey Moorhouse had a sneaking theory that if one wanted to stop a religious or other riot on the subcontinent one should stand in the middle of it all, lift one finger as if an umpire signalling 'out', and shout 'not cricket!' It could even work... |

Subject: RE: India vs. Pakistan: A Good Day From: GUEST,Ooh-Aah Date: 21 Aug 04 - 07:50 PM I notice that Pakistan beat India in a one-dayer recently - another good day, as, if the two teams are evenly-matched it's more likely that less resentment will build up from the losing team. |
