Subject: help! chantey chick stuck in georgia! From: GUEST,steph from the windlasses Date: 27 Dec 04 - 03:52 PM hello everyone. i know it's been a while since i posted on here. i feel so out of the loop, its not even funny. well, for those who know me, i got married about a year and a half ago and ended up moving to georgia. married and sailor boy, a submariner to be exact which has taken me away from my musical holy land. anyway, if there is anyone on here who knows of any kind of trad or folk scene down here in the southern georgia/jacksonville, fl area, please let me know. i am starving for good music here. i was blessed with a concert by the tannahill weavers a couple of months ago which was amazing but that was the first taste of trad i had had in months. i hope everyone is well and i miss you all very much. steph glover-pacut lamia_eterna@yahoo.com |

Subject: RE: help! chantey chick stuck in georgia! From: Azizi Date: 27 Dec 04 - 08:09 PM Hello Chantey chick. Sorry. I don't know anything at all about the music scene in southern Georgia or the Jacksonville, Florida area. But, I wanted you to know that I wish you good music and good friends in the new year-both in cyberspace and otherwise. Think of the glass as half full and not half empty-at least you're not freezing cold where you are as I am ;0)) Peace, Azizi |

Subject: RE: help! chantey chick stuck in georgia! From: jimmyt Date: 27 Dec 04 - 09:30 PM Steph, I am not much help as although I am in Georgia, it is about 375 miles north on the Tennessee border. I think there a few catters in the north Florida area, though and I am sure they will contact you as soon as they see your post. jimmyt |

Subject: RE: help! chantey chick stuck in georgia! From: GUEST,Barry Finn Date: 28 Dec 04 - 03:20 AM Hi Steph Congratulations on your marriage & it's good to hear from you again. Sorry that you've been musically stranded on the shore. I believe there's a maritime museum somewhere near Beauford NC (I don't have a clue how far that's from you). They might be able to point you in the direction of Simon Spaulding a singer & fiddler who would be able to point your nose towards sea music in that streach of the coast. I believe you met him when we hooked up for the shanty festival in San Fransico a few years back. If he's still in the area he'd also have a pretty good idea of any news about the activities of tall ships that may happen on by. You might get those sea legs going again. Give my love to Mom & Sis, haven't seen them in awhile & all my best to you. Love, Barry |

Subject: RE: help! chantey chick stuck in georgia! From: Joe Offer Date: 28 Dec 04 - 03:42 AM Hi, Chanteychick - It's not too far to go to the Florida Folk Festival in May. I've been there, and really enjoyed it. The Will McLean Festival is in March; and the South Florida Acoustic and Folk Festival comes up in mid-January (don't know anything about that one). The Gamble Rogers Festival is at the end of April, in St. Augustine. You're also not too far from Merlefest in Wilkesboro, NC - held late in April. Friends who have attended Merlefest say it's extraordinary. There's also the Charlie Poole Music Festival in Eden, NC - late in May. I've heard this one is extremely good, too. OK, Steph - so stop complaining already, and get out and do some music!! -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: help! chantey chick stuck in georgia! From: KAS Date: 30 Dec 04 - 12:59 AM Hi Steph! Thanks for calling - in addition to my normal weirdness, I'm recovering from a nasty e-mail virus which erased my whole address book. Slowly reconstructing, but bleah! I miss you! Wish I had Southern resources for you. I do know that the Georgian women, they got a sweet jelly roll... Keep after these fine people. They'll hook you up. Hope I see you soon! (Finn too!) Visit NY? Cyril Tawney says: O Susie, O Susie, won't you be mine? Submariner's wives have a hell of a time You'll live like a duchess, with cash on the nail If you don't mind the smell of the diesel and shale DIESEL AND SHALE, DIESEL AND SHALE IF YOU DON'T MIND THE SMELL OF THE DIESEL AND SHALE etc. Much love, Ken |
