Subject: Too Soon Tomorrow, Brewer & Shipley From: Mountain Dog Date: 23 Feb 01 - 03:09 PM Looking for lyrics to this tune from Brewer & Shipley's "Weeds" album. (Circa 1970, probably on Buddha Records and long out of print...and Rhino hasn't picked it up...) I remember the tune, but can only dredge up a snippet or two of the lyrics from the well of memory. From the chorus: "Oh, my God, must it be so hard, just to live and love and learn to be a man? I'm doin' all that I can." And from one verse: "...just like the Seneca, I have lost my place and too soon tomorrow becomes yesterday..." Any help is appreciated! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Too Soon Tomorrow, Brewer & Shipley From: Sorcha Date: 23 Feb 01 - 07:57 PM Me too, Ron. I saw them at their very first live concert (I think). It was at a private Methodist College in Winfield, KS, and they did One Toke, and lots of other songs from that album. I think it was even before the album was recorded.......they set that school back on its heels, I'll tell ya. I been singing It's OK to have a revolution ever since. Taught it to my kids, too! LOL |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Too Soon Tomorrow, Brewer & Shipley From: Mountain Dog Date: 23 Feb 01 - 08:47 PM Dear Dharmabum and Sorcha, My thanks and blessings tumble over you both like spring freshets in the Rockies! Not only the lyrics I'd been looking for, but the treasure trove unearthed by Sorcha as well! Marvelous link! "Oh Mommy" had completely slipped my mind until I saw it in print - and immediately picked up the guitar and started yowling it! (Too bad there wasn't a pedal steel in the background to drown me out...!) "Witchi-Tai-To" (also from "Weeds" is another tune I still sing with friends, and though we use a more traditional Native American arrangement today, Brewer and Shipley were the ones who introduced me to it originally. Still love their version, too.) Thank you, thank you, thank you! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Too Soon Tomorrow, Brewer & Shipley From: Sorcha Date: 23 Feb 01 - 08:56 PM Wichita, aka "Wichi-tai-to" is only 40 miles from Winfield, where I grew up, and heard them live, in 1969, or maybe even '68........it's hard to remember when you were one toke over the line..........and I spent hours waitin in the railway staion, going back and forth to school in Lawrence, at KU.........whooo wa, those were the days, weren't they?
Oh yea, historical note here: If you are really interested, look at Ouichita, Washita, Kickapoo, Kickapoo Corral, and Kansa........ Ouichita is in AK, Washita is in OK, Kickapoo is in KS, and the Kansa tribe was the beginning of it all, pre-Coronado. Ronald LoPresti wrote a big production featuring Winfield called "Kanza"......(more than you wanted to know, right?) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Too Soon Tomorrow, Brewer & Shipley From: Ebbie Date: 23 Feb 01 - 09:18 PM As you probably know, Brewer and Shipley are still touring. I believe they had stopped then got back together again in recent years. They come to Juneau every year or two. At last fall's concert I bought their 'Heartland'. And yes, live they still do 'One Toke'... Ebbie |
