Subject: RE: how do you get a web page From: mooman Date: 22 Nov 02 - 05:03 AM Dear Guest Noddy, There are quite a few sites, like Angelfire, that will give you a free website and even the tools to build a web page. The downside is that they finance this through having popup ads when someone logs onto your site which is rather annoying. However my daughter has used a couple of these and, despite the tools provided and with a little starting help from the famous Mudcat HTML guide, has now become quite proficient in writing her own HTML and even Java applets at only 14! My own webspace comes as part of my broadband ISP subscription, i.e. I pay for it...but at least it's then completely under my control... Good luck mooman |

Subject: RE: how do you get a web page From: Bullfrog Jones Date: 22 Nov 02 - 08:10 AM Noddy, you can create a free basic website with soundclips at iuma.com. Most of the free webhosts won't let you upload music, so you can either create a site elsewhere and link to iuma(as I do here) or, if you don't need anything too flash, do it all on iuma. BJ |

Subject: RE: how do you get a web page From: GUEST,rich_and_dee Date: 22 Nov 02 - 09:39 AM Hi, A lot of internet service providers (like Yahoo), provide some web space to customers. I got a free web site through geocities many moons ago, before it was swallowed up by Yahoo. I think Earthlink, for another, also provides some sort of web hosting. As was stated above, the down side of accepting one of these free web sites is your site will be full of ads, over which you have little control. If all the advice hasn't discouraged you, check with your ISP's web site to see what services they offer. If the free web site isn't for you, there are web hosting companies out there charging under $30.00 (USA)per month. It is a tenuous business these days and I've seen more than a few web hosting sites just disappear overnight, so buyer beware. Still, it's a bit of fun. Anyplace you do find to host your web site will also provides tools and tutorials for actually building your web site. The tools make it very simple, like filling in a template. |

Subject: RE: how do you get a web page From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 22 Nov 02 - 04:36 PM Hunt around and you can get just about anything you need for a website for free without having intrusive ads, including masses of free space and freedom to use it for music files and all. (Especially music where copyright problems don't apply, such as your own music.) There are people around the Mudcat who can gve advice and make recommendations - but just using Google you can find just about everything you might need in an evening. |
