Subject: RE: Spinning Wheel in the Parlor - More? From: Louie Roy Date: 26 Jan 04 - 03:32 PM This is what I have it was written and recorded in 1933 by Billy Hill and it goes like this: VERSE 1: Covered with dust and forgotten Like the face upon the wall The one souvenir of days gone by I treasure most of all CHORUS: There's an old spinning wheel in the parlor Spinning dreams of long, long ago Spinning dreams of an old fashioned garden And a maid with an old fashioned beau Sometimes it seems that I can hear her in the twilight At the organ softly singing Old Black Joe There's an old spinning wheel in the parlor Spinning dreams of the long, long ago |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Old Spinning Wheel From: GUEST Date: 28 Jul 08 - 07:02 PM My mom used to sing this song to me when I was little-and I have always just parts of it to my kids. So today I am sitting here thinking "what if I google "There's an old Spinning wheel in the parlor" wondering if anything would come up. SO I am totally shocked that I found the verses!!! My mom (73) told me her dad, who is past used to sing this song to her when she was little. Does any know when the original was written. Did anyone find the 2nd verse?? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Old Spinning Wheel From: Fred McCormick Date: 29 Jul 08 - 09:55 AM Curiously enough, the current upload of Worlds of Trad Internet radio has two versions of The Old Spinning Wheel. The first is an instrumental played by Percy Humphrey's Cresecnt City Joymakers, for the song was popular among New Orleans jazz bands. The second is an old time country music version from Riley puckett, late of the Skillet Lickers. http://www.live365.com/stations/oneworldmusic |
