The Pentagon has discovered more than 2000 Tons of " hazardous waste" including Anthrax and other "dangerous bacteria" at a US Army base near Washington DC.

Investigators at Fort Detrick [dirty tricks] in Maryland say the items are believed to be left over from a US germ warfare programme that was ended in 1969.

The Pentagon said it had no record of this.

The investigators could try Viet Nam for the remaing "hazardous waste". Ard Mhacha.

Sounds like a shill story. The anthrax in the 'terrorist attack' after Sept 11 was the Ames strain...the stuff is as traceable as fingerprints. So this story makes me think something is going to be done with something developed at Fort Detrick. They had constant security breaches during Bush # 1's administration,so no telling what disappeared, to re-surface later. And when it does appear (the next SARS or weaponized Spanish Influenza), it'll be traceable to Ft. Detrick. And now they have their cover story...'we have so much of the stuff we lost track.'

Maybe this is the stuff they should have shipped to Iraq, but which can't now be found there.

This is really nothing new to Marylanders. There have been rumors about Detrick my whole life (I'm 49). I have read that there are buildings that are hermetically sealed because nobody quite knows for sure what is in them. In some areas the grass is cut by goats because nobody wants to create sparks.

I have no cites for this information, but those are the rumors of the past 40 years.

And this is news?

I was aware in a general way of the stuff going on at Ft. Detrick back in the '60s, when I was in the Army. My wife's uncles helped install the sewer and plumbing systems back in the early '50s -- and one of them said to me, "I crawled all over there [the sewers] when we were installing them, but I damn sure wouldn't do it now!"

I can tell you for certain that this one is not true. Goats don't eat grass. They must be using sheep for that ;-)

;-)

Are you certain, Carol? Check out this story about San Francisco using goats to clear grass.

*G*

Well, maybe California goats eat grass, but back when I had goats (in western Maryland), they ate everything but grass.

Generally speaking, goats are browsers, like deer, and would tend to eat the broadleafed weeds and other non-grass plants (and shrubbery and ornamentals... ). Sheep are grazers, and they do eat grass. However, maybe the goats have mutated from eating all those contaminated weeds, and they're eating grass now ;-)

My goats seemed to like the taste of the laundry drying on my clothesline better than just about anything else.

Goats eating the grass implies that the green stuff growing around the buildings is grass. I've seen enough government facilities to know that they don't spend much money on weeding, fertilizer, etc.

And getting back to the original thread -

When is some contry going to invade the U.S. to get rid of our weapons of mass destruction?

And when are our generals, etc. going to be brought up on war crimes at the Hague?
